Are those the only choices you're will to buy? Personally, it looks like you're skimping on the speaker end. If possible I would cut down on the receiver and put some of that into the speaker budget.

I am not familiar with those Wharfedale speakers, but I have heard others and was pleased. I have never been impressed with the sound of Klipsch though.

Willing to buy ID? Do you have a particular budget you are sticking to?

I guess you right about the budget part...I'm little in short of cash.....I have about 2000 USD to spend over the speakers.....I was checking in ....so as another option what do U think about FOCAL JM Lab Chorus 716V+CC700V+705V+SW700V

So what do you think of that???????!!!!!

If you have some other option better, please feel free to tell???

Regards

Hi Al

Listen to a wide arrnagement of speakers in your budget to get a better picture of whats available.

What I would do is to take a pad of paper with you, write down the make and
model of each speaker you audition and what you liked and disliked about the
speakers you were auditioning. Was the bass tight and deep or was it boomy and loose sounding? Were themids life like or were they hollow or just too pronounced? Was the trebleirritating and harsh or were they dark and not revealing or were they smooththat made you want to listen for more? How was the imaging?

Bring music with you that you are very familiar with and know quite well. To
make it easier to audition HT speaker systems, listen to the main speakers in 2
channel mode with music. Music is much harder to reproduce acurately then a movie soundtrack so if the speakers do well with music, then they will do well with HT. Speakers that do HT well may not do well with music. When auditioning the center channel of the same brand and series as the main speakers, , pick a difficult source like an announcer that mumbles alot. If you can makeout what the mumbling announcer has to say, then you have a good center channel.

I would go to speciality stores first and start auditioning speakers first
instead of going to the internet first. Once your likes are determined, you can
mention them here and fellow members can make internet brand recommnedations based on your likes/dislikes. The specality stores are better setup acoustically then the big box stores which will make auditioning a little easier. It will give you an idea of what you like in a speaker.

Keep track of what amp or receiver is powering the speakers you're auditioning. Try to get a receiver/amp that closest resembles what you have or want to get. It just reduces another variable when audtioning speakers.

One thing to keep note off. When auditioning speakers, make sure the volume
levels are matched between the diiferent speaker pairs because the louder
speaker pair will always sound better. Listen to levels that you think you
would listen to most of the time because thats how you are going to be using
them most of the time.

I suggest auditiong PSB's Image series of speakers as well.

SuperiorHifi: anyone buy speakers from them?

Folks,

I was looking to buy Definitive Tech UIW RCS II from superiorhifi.com who is quoting a very good price on these units. They claim these are new units and they will provide the manufactures equivalent Warranty on these and they are not the authorized dealer for Definitive.

I was wondering if anyone has bought either these or any other speakers from them. I could not find any positive or negative info regarding any transaction with superiorhifi.com.

thanks

I would not buy anything without the REAL manufacturer warranty. Ask digitalcraze.com if you will get the actual real warranty.

I had some major issues with Digital Craze... it's well documented here on the forum. In the end, it worked out, but it was touch and go for awhile. This may sound prejudice, but I've never had good luck buying from these New Jersey, New York online shops. They seem like a bunch of fast talkers and they seem to have very little problem with outright lying. I know that probably bunches up a lot of good retailers, but there's a lot of quality online retailers like OneCall and SoundPros who are great to do business with.

AcuDefTechGuy had a good post this morning (linked here). You might be able to find a local shop, or more well-known internet dealer, to give you the same total price (or close to it) as you'd get from superiorhifi.com. Just a thought.

HT Budget

Al,
You might consider getting a receiver in the $4-500 price range to allow more flexibility in your speaker and sub budget. There are a lot of options in your price range, so listen to several and let your ears decide.

Gentlemen,

I would like to purchase a Def Tech CLR 2500 from Abt. Anyone in particular I should ask for to get a DigitalCraze match? Much appreciated.
