Vantage Point and 10,000 B.C.

I watched 10,000 B.C. last night. Overall, decent movie. Not on the same level as Apocolypto though. Similar storylines, yes, but that is about it. It was reasonably engaging, but I too found myself wanting to see more of the creatures, that or an alien being would've been a cool twist as "The Almighty".

Sound Quality seemed quite good. Very good LFE and it was NOT over used (cough... transformers... cough).

Okay, I have to apologize to both "The Happening" and "Cloverfield".:D

By far, like 10000 times, the worst movie of the decade is 10,000 BC!#@*!$^!

Roland Emmerich is a total moron. He makes "Happening" and "Cloverfield" look like Oscar contenders!

Most cartoons have better story, acting, and directing than 10,000 BC!

Even Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes have better story, acting, and directing than 10,000 BC!

If "Happening" and "Cloverfield" is a Zero (in my book) on a scale of 10, then 10,000 BC is a -10,000.

I thought I was going to turn into the HULK after watching this retarded movie.

This brings me to this question.

What good is a $100,000 home theater system when a lot of the movies out there are like "10,000 BC" and "Happening"???

No matter how great the PQ & SQ, if the movie sucks, it just feels like your entire system sucks and you just wasted all your time on crap.

Just a comment - 10,000 was nominated as one of the least historically accurate movies ever made :)

I haven't seen it either, but the HDD review of it said AQ and PQ are excellent, but the movie basically sucked.

.
Yeah, not nearly as accurate as "One Million BC" with Raquel Welch:rolleyes:

Ya, but it has Raquel Welch so the inaccuracies pretty much go out the window, or cave door for that matter as they did have windows back then :D

We just watched 10K BC last night. I don't know. It seems lately all these movies are so promising yet they just let you down. This could have been an awsome movie. It could have been incredible. Instead, it was littered with horrible acting, bad dialogue, and really fake cgi.

It had it's moments though... the bird thing attach was pretty cool and the mammoths were awsome, but beyond that, it was pretty lame. I've very disappointed with the movies that have been put out lately. I'm almost feeling insulted like these studios are saying "this should be good enough for you" or "you should be happy with what you get."

Somewhere along the way, directors and producers got this notion that it was impossible to meet, let alone exceed, expectations (I've heard that said by them) so they rest on their laurels and put out mediocre films. I think this all started with the episodes 1, 2, and 3 of the Star Wars saga.

Those 3 movies were shameful. They suck on their own, but it's an absolute insult to what the other movies created and were. Jar Jar, bad chinese accents, over the top dialogue, over the top circus stunts, all of it... was just shameful. It just seemed that everyone else after that said to themselves that we can actually lower the bar and get away with it.

I made it through about ten or fifteen minutes of it yesterday. I thought about watching some more in the hopes that it would pick up...maybe I won't waste my time.

I agree that the SW movies were a big let down. I don't think that everyone else has gone that low, though. There have been some great movies since then. The Lord of the Rings movies were, IMO, awesome - a great combo of story, acting, direction, and effects.

I got to watch Vantage Point yesterday and must say I liked it. The rewinding thing did get used a bot too much, but otherwise I enjoyed it. On a side note, seen 10,000 BC at the theater a good bit back. It was decent but imho nothing special. Hope you all have had a good 4th of July!!!!!!

Cheers,

Phil

I got check out Vantage Point. Haven't seen that yet. The 4th was good. I made two giant racks of dino bones on the smoker. Learned a good lesson though. Big beef ribs don't require anything fancy like baby backs. Just salt and pepper and some steady mild smoke. No foiling, none of that stuff you do for bb's. I made this exotic Tabil rub for them and I tried foiling after 3 hours. They came out okay, but the texture was off and unlike bb's, they clearly have enough flavor of their own and don't need any rub. All in all though, it was good and stuffed my pie hole as usual.

Adam... you're right. I forgot about the Lord of the Rings and other movies like Batman Begins, and even the Jurassic Park movies. I just get so pissed about being let down, especially when you can see the potential of a film only to watch it squandered by laziness, ineptness, or what sometimes seems outright contempt for the viewers. The Happening was one of those in the latter category. That could have been one of the coolest, creepiest moves ever, and look what they did with it.

Just got done watching 10,000 BC. Not the greatest movie, but I didn't mind it. The mammoth run at the beginning was really fun though. My wife came in a few minutes after that to ask what I was doing...like it wasn't obvious...

I thought the acting and writing were okay as well, but maybe that's just because I've watched one too many Uwe Boll movies...watched Dungeon Siege a couple of days ago...hehe.

I don't think I've seen a great movie in a long-long time.

After watching movies like 10,000 BC and Happening, I just had to go back and watch the Bourne Trilogy on HD DVD to RESCUE myself from movie depression.:D

Mongol, Wanted, Indiana Jones 4 were better than 10,000 BC and Happening, but the let-down still continued.

Now I'm a little nervous to watch Hellboy 2 and Dark Knight.:D

Please let the bad and mediocre movies stop!

I get the impression Hellboy 2 will be great visually, but we will have to see if the story is any good. I am a Del Toro fan though, so hopes are high.

Dark Knight - it will be good IMO.

Just can't wait till Dark Knight is out. It looks like it will be real good. I also am looking forward to seeing the new X-Files movie too. Jillian Anderson sure looks much better than from what I remember her. BTW John, do you by chance know when it will be released? The Dark Knight opens July 18th.

Cheers,

Phil

No date was given for X-files when I saw the trailer, but IMDB has it listed as July 25th!

Thank you so much John. I can live with July 25th as I am a bit more excited about Dark Knight. However, I will surely see the X-Files movie as soon as I can. Appreciate the info.

Cheers,

Phil

You know, I was in the mall with my 14 yr old daughter and there was this gal who probably weighed in at 2 bills wearing a belly top and a mini-skirt that my 120 pounder would wear. It just wasn't pretty. Christina's comment wasn't really rude or crass or cutting... it made simple sense to me..."I bet if she looled in the mirror before she left the house, she wouldn't have wore that."

Profound I thought. Either your ignorant because you didn't bother or arrorgant that you did and still went that direction anyway. That's how I feel about a lot of the movies being put out over the years. I mean, did the studio, the director, the producer even watch 10K BC when they finished it? If so, could they have really walked away being proud of what they put out?

Yeah but for all of us old fogies that would rather watch paint dry than watch Jumper or 10K BC, there are plenty of others that rave about how awesome it was. Different strokes for different folks. Any script that calls for a halfway challenging story line or plot or asks the audience to think for a picosecond gets canned. Instead we get the 10K BC's of the world.

Maybe I should start listening to the critics again (Yahoo movies).

I mean "Happening", "10,000 BC", and "Jumper" all had an average grade of "C" from the critics, while "Hulk", "Iron Man", & "Wanted" all had an average grade of "B" from the critics.

So from now on, a movie needs to have an average grade of "B" from the critics to get my attention.

I am so sick of all these C-grade (or worst) movies.

"Spiderman" Trilogy, "Bourne" Trilogy, and "Batman Begins", all got "B" averages from the critics.

However, I cannot believe that the critics gave "Matrix Revolutions" a grade of "C", which would put it in the same class as "10,000 BC, "Happening", and "Jumper". That's not right at all.

Okay, maybe I need to look at both the critics and user grades.:D
