Just wondering if these two movies worth picking up in bluray?

I just bought 10,000 BC on BD. The story probably sucks, but it should have excellent PQ/SQ and special effects.:D

That's better than some movies that don't have anything at all (like The Happening). Gosh, even the name sounds stupid. :D

I hope 10,000 BC will be at least stupid FUN.:D

It looked entertaining, but I never ended up seeing it.

Watched 10,000 B.C. last night on VOD. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

Probably about a third of the way through the movie I commented to my partner how much the storyline was like Apocalypto by Mel Gibson and for every minute after that it got more and more like it. Way less violent though.

Paid $5 to see it and glad I did as now I can take it out of my Amazon cart and save $20 ;)

I am sure the PQ and SQ on Blu-Ray will be great.

Just my $0.02

Cheers

So it's a copy-cat of Apocalypto with Mammoths and Sabertooth tigers?:D

Just a comment - 10,000 was nominated as one of the least historically accurate movies ever made :)

I haven't seen it either, but the HDD review of it said AQ and PQ are excellent, but the movie basically sucked.

I still want to see Vantage Point.

I view 10,000 BC as Sci-Fi, so of course it's not historically accurate.:)

I can understand when people they just didn't like the movie because it was boring or it lacked characterization and plot, etc.

But to say they didn't like the movie because it was historically inaccurate is stupid in this case.

It's not exactly a History Channel Movie. Too many critics are morons.

It is pure science fiction. Like most of us go the movies to learn about history or anything important?:D

Movies = Entertainment, not history lesson.

If a movie does not have all the essential elements (setting, character development, plot, climax, resolution, etc.), it better be just plain entertaining with lots of special effects and action and it better have awesome PQ & SQ.

I have not bought a single BD movie in about 2 months (it seems), so I hope 10,000 BC is at least FUN to watch and listen to.:D

10,000 BC is not comparable to Apocolypto because it doesn't feel real. Apocolypto was intended to be accurate, as accurate as possible at least.

I didn't say the movie was intended to be a historical account, just that it made the list. Yes, the majority of movies are fantasy, not reality, so they can do whatever they want in them. If they made it a factual tale it would most likely be called a DOCUMENTARY and those aren't always that exciting....(and they certainly don't sell a lot of tickets at the box office).

Apocolypto Rocked IMO

I thought Apocolypto was a fantastic film. Very engaging storyline and plot. I did not even realize I was watching a subtitled movie because I got into it so easily.

If 10,000 BC is half the movie, it should be worth seeing. I have it at home on a Netflix rental. Maybe I will watch it tonight or tomorrow.

Did I mention I really like Sci-Fi movies as well?

I agree, and disagree :D

I think the two are comparable just in the sense of how similiar the story lines are, well up until the end when they copied 300. Other than the fact that in 10,000 the hero killed the "god".

I do agree with you in the sense that Apocalypto rocked and was reasonably accurate.

I could put all that aside if I found the movie exciting in terms of being entertained, but I found its entertainment value on the low side of the scale.

It needed some mammoth and saber-tooth tiger battles with kicked up LFE :D

If I am not mistaken, Apocalypto was also on the list of "innacurate" :)

Well, I only watched about 40 minutes of "10,000 BC" last night. I guess I will finish it later. So far, it's definitely stupid. The PQ & SQ are definitely great, but the story is definitely stupid.

I don't think we can mention 10,000 BC in the same sentence as Apocalypto.:D

Apocalypto was an excellent movie IMO.

"10,000 BC" is just a STUPID BRAINLESS FUN movie that allows you to enjoy your subwoofer when those bad a$$ animals stomp all over the screen.:D

Thanks for the tip, and I would if I could but unfortunately it is to late for me to edit my post. Next time :)

Yes, I guess I did use the term accurate quite loosely and may have applied the term moreso on the merits of Apocalypto being a much better movie. Not that that is an acceptable stretch, but I do remember some of the stuff from my history classes in grade school, you know, back in the day when it was okay to teach kids about all the nasties in the world.

Cheers

Agreed, but there was just not enough of that type of mayhem. :D

For movies, I lean to the side of brainless fun more often than the side of serious drama. If your not going to give a "story" in the movie, you better wow me with the action and IMO, 10,000 B.C. fell short of this.

I was afraid of that.

So after about 40 minutes, the action doesn't pick up? Great! My luck.
