Hello

I am the beginner for audio system. I am not expert on this issues. I want your recommendations for speaker systems. After I read many review and forums, I had Oppo 980H dvd player. After purchasing this player, I searched av receivers and decided to buy Yamaha htr 6160 (same as 663). At now, I will buy center speaker. I intended to buy infinity beta c250. Initially, I am planning to buy 5.1 channel speaker system. However, I don't any idea which left and right speakers, sub-woofer and surrounds should I purchase. In future, if I upgrade to 7.1 channel, what should I do?

My constraints:

1-I dont want to disturb my neighbors by my system. So I don't want huge speakers. I just want to watch movies as I watched in theaters. And listen music not loudly. I will use this system in 160 sq foot or 280 sq foot room. (I am not sure which room I will use but I like that system should be flexible in this range)

2- I heard that center channel is the most important part of the audio systems, so I am going to buy infinity C250. However I do not know about how important front left and right speakers along with surround speakers. (should I buy Infinity Beta 20 for fronts) Which brand will you recommend? (infinity?, bose?, JBL? etc) or Should I buy complete systems?

3- My budget is for: (I can change this budget according to your rec.)
left and right speakers: $150 -$180 (for both)
Surround speakers: dont know how much I should assign)
Sub woofer: dont know how much I should assign)
I dont want to invest on speaker systems alot. (Maximum $300 -$350)

4- Do you recommend about infinity systems?

Finally, I really want to hear good sound while listening and watching, but I am not found of loud. For me quality of sound is much more important...

Welcome, first your sort of going about this backwards, yes the center is very important and about the hardest working speaker during movies but you need to pick the front L&R first and that dictates the ideal (though not written in stone) matched center. So decide if you want smaller stand mounted fronts or a floor standing speaker and try to listen to anything before you buy. Looks are important but you can eaily get a great looking speaker you cant stand to listen to so hearing is the best advice I can give.
Once you decide on mains you can explore a matched center or use the reciever in phamtom or stereo mode, add a matched or any center to get you by till you can save and ofcourse the surrounds can usually be matched to fronts even later but surrounds are not nearly as important to match so dont get to caught up in that right away, many dont match center for any number of reasons from budget, looks, size or personal choice and get excellent results so take note of that option aswell. If you are going to go the small stand mounted (monitor) route it would be ideal to get a speaker that atleast will give you 80HZ of bass,,,,,,,,,THX standard performance. One more tip is pay attention to how efficient speakers are, over 90db is ideal for a reciever to power with ease and you can always ask around if you list specs of any possible purchase to folks here for more advice.
Good luck and email if you want any help........cheers

Thanks for your advice. What kind of left and right speaker will you recommend for infinity beta c250. I heard many good things about this center, so I do not want to leave it. In addition, I am an small city so I do not have so much opportunity to test all spearkers (in my town, we have only best buy and circuitcity.) For example, neither of them have any infinity speakers. I trust people here such as many times I trusted before.

Speaker size has nothing to do with it. If you don't want to "Disturb" your neighbors. That is entirely up to you, and your volume knob.

Center channel speakers are important. But IMO the main L/R speakers are far more important then your center. The ideal thing is to have all 3 L/C/R speaker be the same. This is not always possible.

herturk7,

Speaker preference is very personal. It's hard for anyone else to say which you'll like better - Klipsch or Infinity. Some people love Klipsch, some people hate them. If you can go to a store an audition these, or better yet bring them home to audition them, please do that. Heck, if your friend has the Klipsch, go over and give them a listen. It really comes down to what you like. It doesn't have to be a difficult hunt to find good speakers, but it's best to go listen for yourself if you can. I've read good things about the Infinity Betas, but I don't know anything about those Klipsch's.

You can get the Beta 20's pretty cheap online too. Just do a search on slickdeals.net. I've seen them for around $200 a pair. As for the sub, it depends a lot on how big your room is. HSU and SVS are recommended a lot and seem to provide good bang for the buck. The x-sub from av123 (they've got a good sale going now too) is good for the money, but I wouldn't recommend it unless your room is small, like mine.

Right from the original post it's been Infinity Beta. Now all of a sudden Klipsch Quintet. Why not ask that question from the beginning?

After the Klipsch which speakers are next?

Infinity beta c250 for center
Infinity beta c20 for front left and right
Infinity beta c10 for rear left and right

or

Infinity beta c250 for center
Infinity beta c20 for front left and right
Infinity beta c20 for rear left and right
Either of these setups would be a good start and, has been said, better than the Klipsch Synergy. The AV123 X-sub someone mentioned would be good to fill in the low-end.http://av123.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,41/category_id,9/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,37/vmcchk,1/Itemid,37/

If your city is big enough to have both BB and CC, there are probably several specialized home theater shops. Do a yellow pages search, or go on Infinity's website and try the dealer locator. Klipsch and Infinity sound completely different. Like Adam said, the preference is purely personal, so it's impossible for someone to tell you what you like.

As you see from the spec, Klipsch Quintet has better sensitivity and frequency response. Can you clarfy why you object to Klipsch?
There is no such thing as "better" sensitivity, a more sensitive speaker is easier for more amps to drive but it has nothing to do with better. Same can be said for frequency response, you can buy a $100 speaker out of a white van that will go from 20H to 20KH but you can also pay thousands of dollars for speakers that only go to 30, 40 cycles that are vastly superior.
I would rather have a speaker that doesnt go as low but does what it is supposed to very well with alot of thought into all its parts than a full range speaker that wasnt thought out as well, has perhaps a cheap cabinet, poor crossover and ultra cheap drivers..
