As a programmer with an M.S. degree and 20 years of programming experience, I am flabbergasted. That is total and utter bullsh!t. The cable knows absolutey ZERO about the bitstream!
Well I think you just failed to perceive the sarcasm in that review then!

I realize that the quote was not attributed to Mouettus. It's just that people can be way out there...It's the reason $500 cables sell.

We mean that the Amazon review was a joke. If you haven't yet, you should check them out. Some of them are hilarious! Even some of the comments to the reviews are funny.

ROTFLMAO!!!:D I have the feeling that Denon is going to be pulling this cable pretty soon. They are taking such a hammering on it from everywhere!!!

The scathing reviews on Amazon are hilarious!:D

put it this way ... you are hanging from a cliff ... there are two cables that can help you.

Monster Cable or Denon Cable

which will you grab?

We saw this thing over a year ago at one of the shows (can't remember if it was CEDIA or CES) but it cracked us up and we just laughed it off... I meant to post about it but I ran out of time (at the time).

Ahhh, I see. Well, outside of the obvious answer from any true Audioholic - that I'd rather plummet to my death than lower myself to the level of even touching such an abomination - I'd go with the Monster. They might not be worth the money, but you've got to admit that their cables are thick!

Seriously, I have no life.
This one doesn't even do something that a $0.99 (paying for the bag that it came in) patch cable won't do.

Even the normally clueless people on Amazon are having a field day with this one.

http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicated-Link-Cable/dp/B000I1X6PM

I wonder if this has a retailer markup similar to that of Bose and Monster. If so, I wouldn't be surprised to see custom installers (who are supposed to know what they're talking about) hawk this or something similar. I'll never get over that one dealer who told me I would get a much better picture if I bought a $300 HDMI cable from him.
Those Amazon reviews are hilarious. There is not one review that is not satire in the whole bunch.

May be the state of the Union is not as bad as I thought. Let the marketing execs squirm their way out of that one!

I was just browsing Denon's Canada website and in their acessories section.

1 Meter HDMI Cable - MSRP $125.00
3 Meter HDMI Cable - MSRP $190.00
5 Meter HDMI Cable - MSRP $250.00

I own a Denon receiver but this is ridiculous. Denon you are making M$%^&*R look good right now.

You know, in the Big Picture of expensive cables, the prices above are nothing when compared in the light of Nordost, Audioquest, Kimber, Cardas.
Here is one from Verastarr.

The only issue I have with expensive cables is selling them as super superior. Is the $500 HDMI cable better than the one that came with my Oppo dvd player... I'm sure it is... is it better than my Blue Jean cable? I don't know and don't care because my BJ cable seems to work just fine.

Now, if I had more money than sense, would I buy cables from Kimber and other cable manufactures... you know what? Maybe... only because I look at it as paying for a brand and look. I have Monster cable that I had bought years ago... I still think it looks cool. My daughter's Lucky Brand Jeans she likes to wear cost me $145 each. I'm sure they're no more comfortable, wearable, durable, whatever, than her $45 Levi's... but you're not paying for quality all the time.

Maybe if the manufacturers would tone down the claims... I think we could all live with it more. I mean why would any of us care if someone wants to spend a few hundred bucks for a network cable?

For many years, Denon has overcharged for things. If you doubt this, just do some searching for professional reviews involving actual testing of Oppo DVD players (all are $400 or less) and compare them with professional reviews involving actual testing of Denon DVD players costing more than $1000. With Denon, you have been able to throw away your money before this new nonsense.

To get you started on your searching, take a look at:

Warning: this link is to a large page that may take some time to load:

http://hometheater.about.com/od/dvdproductreviews/ig/OPPO-DV-983H-HQV-Test-Results/

Sure, the multi-thousand dollar DVD players from Denon are good, but they are crazy expensive, which is nicely demonstrated by comparing their performance with the Oppo players. I am sure that this new wire from Denon functions well, too. What is wrong about it is that it is that it is overly expensive, and they seem to be lying about what it will do for you. But I doubt one would have much trouble finding BS lies in their marketing of their expensive DVD players if only one would take the trouble to look.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone is surprised by Denon doing this, as it is very much in line with what they have been doing already. I guess some people can only recognize price gouging and BS lies when it is marketing for wire rather than for other products.

... yeah I get it, but why is everyone pissed because there's people willing to pay too much for something. Hell, if I can sell something for twice as much as the next guy and get it, than why not? We all perceive value in different ways. That's the way it works in a free capitalist society where the pricing of commerce is ultimately driven by two concepts: 1) necessity and scare resources and 2) basic supply and demand.

We see that everyday, but sometimes we just don't like it. I pay almost 2 times as much for my dry cleaning at the place I go to just because I like the people there better. They speak English, they know name, and it's hassle free. I don't know if my clothes are any better off, but it's still worth it to me for whatever reason. At the same time, it's my choice to go there, and I'm glad I have the option. My wife thinks I'm an idiot for it.

The whole thing works both ways as well. At some point, I may go down the street and pay a lot less and others my do the same. At some point, they'll no longer be able to get the rates they're asking for. They'll either have to lower the price or go under.

If Dennon, Monster, or Kimber want to put a bunch of useless technology into a cable and charge an arm and leg for it, it's their option. No one's forcing anyone to buy it, just as no one forces anyone to buy a $25K pair of speakers over a $2.5K pair that 95% of people couldn't tell difference if they were blindfolded.

My only caveat is that they shouldn't deliberately and materially lie. They can talk about data sheets and prove that this measurement comes out better than this other cable (even though it may be meaningless in the real world) but they can't outright lie.

I for one like it when people put out stuff like this. I'd never buy it, but I think it's fun to look at and makes me marvel at the kind of money some people really have to burn. And that's the group you're talking about. No one is gonna be putting away a slush fund to buy a several hundred dollar network cable or gonna trade the weekend at Disney for it. You either have the money and don't care if you blow it or you're buy different cables.

I don't know how much money Michael Jackson has now, but when his financial state was in it's prime, I don't think he would buy this Denon cable. Why? It doesn't cost ENOUGH. He would buy it if it cost $50,000.:D

Don't hate, right?:D:D

Maybe it's just the ENVY talking?

Those damn rich bastards!

I wish I were one!:D

You know, you're a good example of what I'm talking about. I mean, how dare you buy 3 overpriced Dennon integrated amps and spend all that money when you could've just spent $1200 on a Pioneer Elite 94 like I did or better yet.. we're both jerks for not spending $500 on an Outlaw receiver!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If I had the money and just didn't care, I'd buy whatever I want for whatever reason I want. I'd likely buy all Kimber cables for no other reason because I like the way they look.
