Hi all. I find myself dismayed with the performance of my system in a new apartment, and almost wonder if there's some problem with my system.

Specifically, it seems that the center part of the (two-speaker) stereo image is vague, and the speakers are not properly "disappearing." I have a relatively new CD player and did not notice this problem with it before I recently move my components around in my room. Oddly, the new location should have improved the results. In some ways things are improved, but in other ways not.

I know I have to do something. Even something as simple as slap echo is alarmingly present.

I'm just wondering if this "weak center" is symptomatic of some obvious room issue.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Good imagining has very very much to do with the room, if you cup your hands behind your ears when listening, does the imaging improve?

It could be symptomatic of a couple of problems. Are your speakers properly aligned? That could cause phase problems that would shift the center. It might also be comb filtering caused by the speaker/room interaction.

Is the center missing accross the whole bandwidth or is it just vocal band stuff or what? What kind of speakers are they? What does the room look like? How is it layed out?
