OK some will laugh but I am going to see the Cleveland Orchestra later this summer, for those who have never been during trhe summer ots outside and very casual, not stuffing at all. Being near a city with argueably one of the 5 best Orchestra's on the planet is a real treat, you think ANY system sounds great? If you are honest with yourself after hearing live Classical you will realize that while your system is pleasing it just doesnt come close and to think this all with no amplifiers!

I am doing sound for Tower Of Power all summer in Europe. We are doing all the big Jazz festivals. Should be fun, I have done every music festival in Europe but all have been big Rock fests. The Jazz scene is much mellower than the Rock scene,duh... and I am working the Virgin Fest in Baltimore in August. There will be plenty of great acts at that one.:D

The Cleveland Symphony uses a PA system. I have worked with and recorded them 3 different times.

To my surprise, Bob Dylan is coming to my area soon. So is 3Doors Down and Staind. Might just have to check one of these out depending on my funds. Right now, it is NOT looking too good.:eek:

Cheers,

O h man Rush. Neil Pert is amazing. Speaking of him, I seen a thread over on the Axiom forum a good while back that had an animated version of him drumming. Wished, I could find it again. Have you ever seen it mazer? Neil is one of the, if not the best, drummers alive today. Would give anything to see Rush. Excellent choice mazer.

Cheers,

Phil

Huh? I never knew that, do they do PA at both Severance and Blossom? I know hen I saw them a few years ago in Blossom Pavilion it didnt have any hint of amplified sound, my friend did sound for Kenny G, Danzig, Billy Joel and others and never mentioned Cleveland Orch but it never came up. At any rate I still say pure accoustic Classical will bow any system away.....cheers

I was totally amazed at the authority in which he bangs on those drums for almost 3 hours. And the bands precision was incredible. It was a great show.

Holy Crap!!!!! Neil is just absolutely amazing. What is even more amazing is that looked like one of his smallest sets.:eek: He has been known to play on a 100 piece set-incredibly Neil uses ALL of them too. Wish I could find the animated version of him. It is just awesome. Thanks mazer as I really enjoyed that. I even heard Tom Sawyer today on the radio. That is one of my favs.......

Cheers,

Phil

Yes they have sound at both blossom and and any other show they do. Classical music is not mixed in a way that would make it sound amplified. Every classical orchestra has mics and a soundman. I have worked with the BSO many times and we have 68 mics on stage for the BSO. The key to mixing classical or an orchestra is that you don't want the audience to know they are hearing a PA system as most orchestra goers are purists and wouldn't be happy hearing the 1st viola standing out from everything else.Thats it in a nutshell.
