IYO, would buying my wife a picture of herself be a crappy gift?

My wife's and I 1-year anniversary is coming up. For the 1 year you're supposed to give a gift of paper. Weird, I know.

Keeping with that, I thought about ordering a stretched canvas of a picture of her picking rocks by the shore in Maui on our Honeymoon. I absolutely love the picture, it really shows her beauty, and it has a lot of memory to it, but I'm trying to look at it from a woman's perspective. Would you guys think that's more of a gift to myself?

If not this picture, it was going to be one of us on a Disney vacation.

FWIW, I think we're going to the Gulf Coast for our anniversary. :)

Picture in question:

My wifes exact words "Why would I want to look at a picture of myself" - every woman is different though...kindof.

She suggested the picture but with an included poem or story of your first year together.

Good luck.

She would probably like a picture of the two of you together.

Peace,

haha, I like that idea! I already have a set of 6.5's sitting in my closet! :D

lol. Thanks for getting a woman's opinion for me. ;)

I don't know if she'd take it that way or not. I just think it has enough meaning behind it that she'd appreciate it... with the explanation given with it.

I guess I could always get her a autographed picture of Rob Thomas since she always tells me how fine he is.

If it's doable, perhaps a pendant made from one of the (polished/shaped)rocks she was collecting when the picture was being taken would add a bit to it.

Wimmens love that sappy stuff if it's done with class.

We didn't take any home with us. While we were there we heard it was bad luck to take stones with you. I guess we kinda bought into it, so we wound up throwing them back onto the shore.

Be honest. You saw that on the Brady Bunch, didn't you?:p

I had a really nice picture of the two of us together in a nice frame and similar frame with a song that discribe her (edit a little, "Queen of the slipstream" -- Van the Man).

I gave them to her after we had return from a weekend trip to a spa.
Tears rolling down her face

Then she said this is the reason you have been behaving strangely lately.

It is a true myth or urban legend or whatever you want to call it. But it kinda applies more to sand and lava rock than it does to coral which is whats in her hand. There are actually people who take rocks and stuff, only to return to the mainland and have all kinds of unfortunate events happen, So they end up mailing back the rocks which are then returned to Pele in an offering at the volcano.

but besides that I believe its also illegal to take coral and such with you anyway.

I don't think my wife would want a picture of herself given to her. Of course, my wife is not your wife, and therefore her opinion (and mine) are basically irrelevant; it is what your wife would like that matters. But since you are asking opinions on the subject, yes, I think a picture of her would probably be a bad gift for her.

I think the picture you have selected would be more appropriate for your wife to give to you.

You could go with the suggestion that others are making, and give your wife a picture of the two of you from when you first met or possibly on your honeymoon.

As for keeping with the idea of giving her paper, I think you should know whether she likes such traditions or not. My wife regards such things as silly, but yours may very well be different on that sort of thing.

There's only one form of paper you need to give that will make a woman smile!

For many women it really is the thought that counts. If you give her the picture and include a card explaining why you’re giving it to her it should be even better received. Like you did for us, but prettier ;)
If she see's all the thought and effort you put into it even if it's not quite what she wanted she probably still love it.
Now at 10 years you sure the heck better get her exactly what she wants!

Personally my wife and I set up wish lists on amazon. Neither of us has been disappointed since.

Although it is true that the thought counts for a lot with many (not just women), it isn't the only thing that matters. A gift that shows that not only your heart is in the right place, but that you are intelligent and have paid attention to what she likes will work even better.
