I have just recently purchased the Yamaha rx-v1800 receiver and I am planning on buying the Axiom "epic Grand Master" series speakers which comes with a 10" sub-woofer. Would I be better off Buying an additional 10" sub therefore having two subs in my system or would it be better to upgrade to a single 12" sub? Either way there is not a big difference in price. This system will be used in my own house with the living room measuring 20' x 15'. It will be used for movies/music on a 75/25 ratio. I will be using it fairly load however quality is what I seek.

Hi, if you don't mind we need a bit more info. How big is your room? Will you be using this set-up primarily for watching movies? Will you be listening to music much? Are you residing in an apartment? What are your goals and how loud do you play movies/music? Must say that I really like your choice in receivers as I hope to get an 1800 one of these days. I also really like the sound of Axiom speakers. There are several members here that offer some good advice BUT we need more info.

Thanks speakerman 39, I've edited my thread to reflect the info you required. Also do you have any other thoughts about the Axiom speakers I've choosen.

Well, I see your preference is on watching movies. I also have a bit better idea of how big your room is. What is the height of your listening area? This will give us the total cubic ft. Does your room open up to other areas or is it more confined? Generally speaking, (2) subs when placed together will yield a 6db gain in output. When placed apart, (2) subs will result in a smoother sound thus spreading the bass around the room more evenly. Since you play your stuff loud, I would have to say that (2) 10" subs will play louder if you can co-locate them. If, on the other hand, you have to place them apart my vote then would go to the 12" sub.
As far as Axiom speakers go, from what I have heard lets say I am real impressed. What is more important, is how YOU feel about them. After all, who knows better than YOU about what YOU like right? My guess is that you would be quite happy. I must say, though, that I am not all that familiar with that sub. The EP500 is stellar and packs quite a punch. Keep in mind too, that I am by no means an expert. There are others here who can offer some very good useful advice. Demo all the speakers you can-that way you can make a well informed decision as well as be happy with YOUR decision. Hope this helps. Welcome to the forum.
