Monster Cable looking out for you

It seems that the folks at Monster Cable have had a slight change of heart. They're sending retailers a new "low" priced line of cables so that the average person can benefit from Monster technology. Reported by The Retail Brige, the story unfolds:

"Monster Expands Distribution Of Entry-Level HDMI Cables.

Monster Cable, a brand name that's usually only associated with top-of-the-line interconnects, last week announced plans to expand distribution of its entry-level HDMI cables. The move is part of an effort to offer retailers a lower-priced alternative without abandoning the company name, Monster said.

"By making our entry-level HDMI cables even more accessible, we're providing consumers with a more affordable alternative for enjoying high-performance HDMI connectivity," said company founder Noel Lee, who for some reason insists on being called Head Monster. "We now offer a wide variety of cable at price points and performance levels for virtually every need and budget. With our MC 500HD value-priced line, we're also giving our retailers what they've been asking for, namely, a lower-priced, high-quality cable that will provide complete satisfaction to their discriminating customers - at a price everyone can afford."

Prices for the line being expanded, Monster's MC 500HD standard speed HDMI cables, start at $49.95 for a 1-meter cable and go up from there. In addition to the expanded distribution, Monster plans to provide retailers with in-store display materials to educate customers about the advantages of speed-rated HDMI cables."

Yes folks the advantage of speed-rated cables.

I thought we discriminating customers ordered from Blue Jean Cables.

Nevertheless, this should help customers with basic needs that don't have the knowledge to shop for better value cables.

I'm willing to bet that the new entry level cable will be exactly the same as a higher end one but with different colored connectors. Any takers?

I believe the new Monster cables have the sound of jingling coins, though I am not sure the frequency this occurs.

I can't wait to hear the sales people answer whether the original Monster Cables sound better than these since the new cables are cheaper.

No, they'll still push the high dollar cables on unsuspecting customers who are unfortunately, none the wiser. And when that fails, they'll push these. I just think it's remarkable how this company takes the same basic cable (probably valued at a few dollars to manufacture) and sells its 15 different ways; I guess the color of the connector is a sure-fire indicator of the cable's overall quality - at least it affects the selling price.

Thank god for BJC and Monoprice, that's all I have to say. ;)

This is what $50.00 buys you...

This is what $7.50 gets you from Monoprice..

I'm beyond caring about gullible consumers who refuse to spend 15 minutes doing research before making purchases. If they buy Bose and Monster, then it's their own damn fault.

This is the system my friend has with the $100 each HDMI cables. Ignorance is bliss!

I like how Moster developed the ambiguous speed system. My HDTV is not on speed, so I guess I can continue to use the freebe cable that came with my DVD player. There is no mention of wire gauge, maximum resolution, HDMI versions or anything else that would be relevant or meaningfull. That would make it too easy to compare against other reasonably priced cables.

When selling snake oil, it makes little sense to try to educate consumers or to give them any meaningful information. If they started talking about gauge of speaker wire, for example, someone might get the idea of buying some other brand of better gauge wire for much less money. That would be bad for business.

I have several monster cables. They are nice, but I'm a bit of a snob and want all my cables to match, so when I get my new receiver in a month or so I'm ordering all new monoprice cables. At least when I bought all my monster cables I was (and am) a BB employee so I didn't overpay too much, but even with accommodations and such the price is still a significant difference between them and monoprice. Keep an eye out on eBay for some slightly used, perfect condition monster cables within the next couple months, Ill make an offer that can't be refused ;)

The massive amount of heavy duty plastic casing these Monster cables come in is better quality than the cables...too bad the plastic casing is totally pointless and just adds even more to the price of these garbage cables....The amount of waste from the packages is criminal

Nice of Monster to set that straight... and I always thought Kimber and Nordost were top-of-the-line.

At least I now know why I come across an audio lag when watching the local news. My cables aren't fast enough to keep pace with the video!
