Just picked up a new pair of the Studio Monitor 350's from Definitive Technology. I'm going to use these as surrounds with BP7002's and a CLR2500.

I have to say these speakers pack a whollop. The most interesting thing however was that I was totally blown away by the imaging from such small speakers. I couldn't wait, so I just plugged them in real quick and stuck atop the amoire in the family room. The sound state was project a good few feet in front of the speakers. There was a very definate blend between the right and left channels, so much so that even my wife, who could care less about this stuff said, "that's cool... if you close your eyes, the voices are in the middle instead of the corners."

If you knew my wife... that would be all you need for a rousing endorsement.

As a general rule, the smallest speakers always have the best imaging. Small speakers can be weak in other areas (bass, dynamics), but a small baffle area is a major advantage for imaging.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. That makes sense if you think about it. While these don't have deep bass... I have to say the passive 8" woofer does create a significant amount of resonance in your chest. I think these will be great surrounds.

Congrats on the awesome speakers (BP7002, CLR2500, and SM350s)!

The SM350s are great enough for many people to be used as the main front L+R + Sub. They will be fantastic for surround speakers!

And, of course, the wife approval is always a blessing!:D

The anechoic chamber frequency response of the SM350s is 57 Hz - 20 kHz +/- 3dB @ 90 dB w/m, measured @ 1 meter from the woofer.

I would set the surround speakers to SMALL @ 80 Hz crossover just to be sure.

I'm hoping Emotiva will get the new pre/pro out in April. I called the other day and they still didn't have any firm date and wouldn't even speculate. Once I get that, I'll be in fat city! I'll have my Sunfire powering everything... I think it will sound nice. I can't setup a 7 channel ht because of the room layout, so I'm thinking I'm going setup a little 2 channel area in some other room. I have one of my favorite amps, an Adcom 555 (?) 2/200 which sounds really nice and I have a pair of original old BIC Venturis (about 15 yrs old) that still surprise the crap out of me everytime I hear them. It'll make a nice setup just to kick back to.

I'm gonna order the rest of the Def Techs shortly, likely from Digital Craze (and I'll probably pick up the Mits 65833 from them as well) so I'll be in good shape soon. I decided to go with the 7002's instead of the 04's. I just gotta get the remaining things done in the room. The wife decided to redo the fireplace (the house is only 4 yrs old) so now that's torn all apart and we had to special order the granite for it (so it matches the kitchen counters I was told) so now we're on hold yet again.

I'm close!

I am very interested in these 350s def Tech, would it improve what I have now?? Front=BP7001s, center=CLR2500, surround =Bp2X, Super Cube II,would the 350 improve my surround? I do enjoy the sound I am now getting but there is always room for upgrade, so I keep looking!

I doubt they would be any better than your BP2X.

Holy moly. I thought i would never hear that name again. My dad still has his pair from the 70s and still going strong! Horn tweeter + 12" woofer. What a lack of mids! lol

Mine are the 830 or 880's I think. They have a tweet, a 5.25 mid and 6" woof I think.. and of course the beloved venturi port. I had them lamenated to match my other furniture at the time in my condo.

I dug out my old Onkyo receiver and Adcom amp and hooked everything up. They still sound pretty damn good I have to say, better than a lot of the consumer grade junk that's out there today.
