Blu-ray playing SD DVD

Based on the thread below, can one assume that a BLu-ray player will do a splendid job of upscaling SD DVD? If so, can one skip buying or owning two seperate players?

I understand the Denon player is very good, as is the Arcam DV137. Would a "good" Blu-ray player do the same quality processing & scaling on a standard DVD?

I haven't read the "thread below", but I have been watching regular DVD's on my PS3 and have no complaints. It performs as well or better than the other upscaling players I've used. Mind you, I only have a 1080i display, so take that for what it's worth.

I have to agree with dave, I too use my ps3 for SD dvd's and it looks great, sometimes I forget that I am watching SD because it almost looks HD. I have a 1080p tv.

I have the PS3 and Xbox 360 - both work excellent upscaling SD DVD's. The PQ is definately improved over a traditional DVD player.

There is pretty much no reason to buy an SD DVD player at this point.

I also have both the ps3 and xbox360 and I gotta tell you that the ps3 seems to do a better job upscaling the dvd's.

Unless you only have $60.:D

It looks like the OP has more to spend than $60 if they are considering an Arcam. A Blu-ray player should scale just as good as most scaling DVD players. You get the added benefit of being able to watch true high definition material as well.

Arcam? I wish...I was just using them as an example. I was told from a couple sources that the DV139 upscaling brings SD DVD within 10% of Blu-ray quality. This may be complete s**t, but that's what I've heard.

However, for $3400 you'd think it would make one stop and think about the original thought I had at the top...just buy a Blu-ray! Just askin'...thanks for the input folks!
