Ok guys, talk me out of it....

I got the OK to get this - (900.00) http://www.emotiva.com/ips1.html
But have already talked my way up to this, (and this would be about the max I would want to spend) http://www.emotiva.com/mps2.html
So unless someone else knows where a kickbutt 7 channel amp for ~1700.00 with this build, please let me know.
I was going to hit the buy button on the MPS-2, but wanted a few more opinions, over what I have already researched.....

I have looked at the Outlaw amps, ATi amps, (over my budget Krell amps), Lexicon, etc......
Should I just shop on craigslist?????

I would have hit the buy button last week, if Emotiva would have just done the MPS-2 at a 5 channel setup (for now).
I have 7.1, but have not be utilizing the 2 back surround speakers lately (granted, they need little power anyway)....
So the extra cost of them now, I would rather save, but they no longer configure the amps other than 7 full channels.... (not a deal breaker, as I would use them eventually, when I get my lazy butt back to hooking the other set up)

I am tired of all the AVRs that I have bought, and decided seperates are now in-line.
So my eD sub purchase (A7-450) can hold off for another few months....
Still waiting on Mike's comments....

Also I know Emotiva is due for the new Pre/Pro in March (well thats what I was told when I called).
Does anyone know of Outlaws plans?????

the IPS specs:
• 150 Watts x 7 into 8 Ohms 1% THD all channels driven

• 200 Watts x 7 into 4 Ohms 1% THD all channels driven

at what frequency?

hmm, checked the MPS-2, they don't match the THD to the wattage output ... shouldnt it be something like 200wpc at 20-20k .15% THD?

the IPS has 1% THD at max power (150wpc) and the MPS doesn't have the rating published.

not that it's important, but just that if you compare specs between amps e.g. rotels 200wpc 20-20k less than 1%THD and the emotiva should have less than 200wpc at the same 20-20k .something THD.

The Rotels I looked at (the 40 pound amp, I think it was the RMB-1075, I think, I was not that interested in.....(5 channels))

I do have 7.1 setup, and only ATM, am not utilizing the other 2 speakers.
As well, I was looking at the Paradigm 100s (I listened to the 60s, and was not impressed at all, but have not had a chance to check out the Studio 100s.)
The cc-690 was the item I am most interested in.

The outlaw board seems to think this year for a processor and successor receiver. However I have not read anything definitive on schedule from Outlaw.

You may want to hold off for Emotiva's new 5 x 200w amp coming out soon, I believe it's the XPA-5. It's construction is a bit different than the MPS-2, but for $799 (not including shipping), I don't know of any new amp that can come near it.

There's a thread here for reservations on it at the Emotiva Lounge (Emo's forum). If you're not in a huge rush for it, I would seriously consider this and a two channel amp later on when you want it for your rear surrounds... -TD

On the pre/pro side, I believe the LMC-2 will be out sometime in Q1 2008. The MMC-2 projected for mid-summer and DMC-2 for Q4 2008.

I just grabbed an MMC-1 a few weeks ago (can't beat the 40% discount on next gen pre/pro's) and so far, I've been quite pleased with the upgrade from using a Yamaha RX-V2500 as a pre/pro.

Little rougher around the edges from a features standpoint and the 2500's GUI is much nicer than the plain text GUI of the MMC, but the important thing, such as two channel and multichannel as well as movie soundtracks is a noticeable improvement. So far, I'm pretty pleased w/the change and will be anxiously awaiting the new version later this year... -TD

i already suggested this to gasman ... but he wants something "heavy", gasman wants something built well (hence being heavy)

BTW.... I agonized over which Amp for weeks; and finally decided on the 7700 from Outlaw; for me it came down to Customer Service and I can tell you this..... Outlaw has the BEST CS I have ever encountered EVER! Edward and Scott are the best!!! I have owned my 7700 for 2 weeks now and LOVE IT!

here's a quote from the above article ...

Driving all seven channels into 8Ω, the MPS-1 delivered 169Wpc at 20Hz and 175Wpc at 1kHz (to the nearest watt) before clipping (1% THD+noise). The channel measured, in position #1, failed during the 20Hz test and did not recover.

Into 4Ω, with the remaining six channels operating, the MPS-1 delivered 215Wpc at 20Hz and 245Wpc at 1kHz.

With only two channels operating, at 1kHz, the Emotiva clipped at 187Wpc into 8Ω and 280Wpc into 4Ω.

Comment: We were surprised to see an amplifier channel fail on the test bench. This is rare, but test-bench procedures do stress an amplifier to the max—a situation rarely encountered in real-world operation at 20Hz with all seven amps operating. But the defective module SS experienced in the same amplifier bay does raise some concern. The replaceable modules in the MPS-1 should make correcting any such problem in the field a relatively simple matter. Our experience with a wide range of electronics suggests that such failures normally happen early in a product's life—or when it's in the hands of a reviewer!—TJN

Agreed, it can be nerve racking wading through all thr reaearch to find the EXACT one for you.
Outlaw has been on the top of my list, I have seen bunches of posts stating the superb customer support.

ATM, I have swayed from the MPS-2, and think for my needs the IPS-1 will suffice.
They have a PDF file, showing all the differences between their amps.
The IPS-1 put up some very good numbers..

And yes, Mike had already mentioned (in a PM) the XPA amp. But the 2 less channels swayed me away from that.
Since i have not been utilizing my full 7 channels, I do like the idea of byamping the fronts (if need be).

So in all honesty, I am probably off to buy the IPS-1 by late tonight.

So I will get that new one, in about 6 months.... (since I get stupid when it comes to upgrading.....)

And probably get the LPA-1 when I get the new processor, to use equipment in another room....
