The Speaker Company?

Enough BS about who they are, what they might become, etc...Who will be the first brave soul to purchase and let us know how it went...

BTW, their sub is not inexpensive, considering that you can buy an economic, but proven, JBL Balboa for $105.00 at a big box store. Wonder how their 5.1 PC/Gaming System would stack up against Logitech's X-540, which is only $10.00 more expensive???

That's just it, the more you step on us the little guys, the more we rise up in defiance, and speak our conscience.

Who was that dude in that other subwoofer thread that came out of nowhere right after I posted the link to Clint's rebuttal of SVS's business practices? He had a really nasty, threatening tone. The kind of language and tone you normally associate with a street thug.

Just let it go, dude... -TD

Are you afraid of him??? Sometimes is better to take it in stride, depending who it comes from. I like it when people threaten me, it shows they have no arguments left, from that point on you become an annoyance to them, and at that point is when you can play with their heads, and they will not be able to sleep waiting here for your next comment; meanwhile you are happily sleeping in your bed.

Afraid? Are you kidding me? This is the internet. And he is not the internet police.

If SVS now engages in this of scare tactics to silence its critics, then SVS has just sunken to a new LOW!

And I will make sure that EVERYONE will know about their mobster like sales tactics.

If I was 100% sure it was them, I would have done the same thing. But, are you 100% sure it was someone from their camp?

Who knows.

This sort of scare tactic behavior was RAMPANT on the avsforum a couple of years ago. From the likes of you know who. But not one time did ANYONE use the kind of threatening language and tone that guy used last night. That dude just crossed the line. If this were in real life, and he threatened me in person, I would have called the police on him right then and there.

BS? It's not BS here Guangui. People do come here to make informed decisions. I've simply stated what little I do know about the company. For those that can blindly make speaker purchases on a whim, or a prayer, have at it. The op posted a question about the speakers. Since no one here apparently has any experience, I proffered the next best things: facts on the company. If I've spread some "BS", please reference it. The three bullets I've posted are facts. And the public ought to know in the absence of other information, despite all of their testimonials and comparisons to big speaker companies.

John, sorry...The BS was more meant like a joke rather than saying we were talking BS...I was adding drama to the comment of who was going to be the first one to buy a set. At no time it was meant to insult anyone. Don't know how you could have taken this personally, as I never quoted you...Again, sorry if I ruffled your feathers, it was not my intention.

Nope. No need to apologize to me Guangui: I'm simply asking a question. And my position is: at this juncture it's a waste of anyone's money to purchase from them...without further information. I've posted my thoughts, the GM's quote, the typos on their website, and the fact that they have the same frequency response for different speakers. If that doesn't give one pause...have at it. I just don't know why you're encouraging others to buy from this company given our lack of info and sampling. Isn't that being foolhardy with money? I don't care what they publish: just because it's written, doesn't make it so. Why don't you be the "brave" one? Seriously. If you feel that strongly about The Speaker Company, why would you not throw some money at them (as opposed to encouraging others to do so )? Cheers.

Not encouraging, just asking. As you can see from my comments, it will not be me the first one to buy from them. So, if someone has half a brain will take your observations in consideration, and my comments as for what they are; pure sarcasm.

It is good to encourage someone to go and not buy those great $500.00 speakers that every reviewer agrees on being a good buy, and rather spend $150.00 more on another set of speakers that are also well reviewed, but not to try something new that might be a bargain...

Ohhh, those tough dilemmas we face on a daily basis...What a hard life we sometimes have...:D

Sorry, if I don't take it very seriously, but I have more important problems to worry about than this one. It might be a different reality for others, but I can only talk about my reality.

Ohhh, sarcasm. I didn't pick up on that. I was simply giving serious feedback from my position to the op.

Tough dilemna? Not here. For some, these things are rather simple to decide.

And if you're not taking this very seriously, it is good to post that. I've had the ooportunity to listen to many speakers in my life. The op has concerns about this company, and his concerns are valid. I don't know how experienced you are, but some inexperienced members post serious questions here, and advising others to buy these, when you would (will) not do the same, is plainly disingenuous. I see that now from your label of sarcasm. Just wasn't so plain (to me anyway ) before you posted that fact. Cheers.

Cheers my friend, I will try to make a point of letting you know when I'm sarcastic...Think of me as the Oscar Madison of the group.

Somewhat experienced when it comes to speakers, also, I am one of those that rather audition than go by the numbers...

Anyways, whoever buys a TSC set first, let us know how it went.

Here's Your Prescription

Why We Fired SVS as an Advertiser

Several things have gone on in the past few weeks that have caused us to think about what's important to us and how we want to treat the forum community. One thing that we have realized is that at some point, when people take advantage and do not heed implied requests and basic etiquette you have to make a decision.

SVS has been an advertiser at Audioholics for some time. We like their products and continute to believe they make some of the cheapest subs out there with a good "bang for the buck" factor. Regardless of not allowing them to advertise, this has nothing to do with them as a manuafacturer.

As a company, however, their marketing methods have gotten out of control - at least on our site. If you'll notice, there is likely not a single subwoofer thread on this forum that doesn't have people talking about SVS. There is a reason for this and it has to do with the marketing methods of SVS as a company. They freely admitted to us that forum participation of their staff and SVS owners is the driving force behind their marketing strategy. This is actually kind of intelligent - until it is abused.

It is being abused on our site - to the point that we were being told that attempting to keep review threads on topic for non-SVS products was basically unacceptable behavior on our part. We were being told how to behave on our own site.

We attempted to let it go and redirect threads as needed, but a recent discussion made it clear that this was unacceptable. We STILL were going to quietly let them go on their way until a recent post appeared on our forums regurgitating the exact conversation SVS had with Gene recently.

Note the post count. This was written by someone who had a direct conversation with our contact at SVS. That pretty much did it for us.

As a result we have fired SVS as an advertiser and will enforce the following forum rules:

* We will not ban SVS threads about SVS products - they make some cool subs, so people are free to talk about them as they'd like - in their own threads.
* All SVS employees have been banned from the website.
* We will not allow SVS posts in non-SVS review threads. I'm sorry, but it has come down to this.
* Any critiques of this policy should be done via PM, not on the forums. We took a long time to come to this conclusion and we were willing to lose a lot of monthly income over this in order to make sure we don't allow our forums to become a marketing tool for a single advertiser. We are not the first (or likely last) website to enforce similar rules.

Thanks for your understanding. We hate making stuff like this public, but it seemed we were given no choice in the matter.

Where did you get that from furrycute? A publishing/posting date is considered proper form when referencing (just for future reference). You sure that's a direct quote? Lots of typos. Clint's a genius...he could not have written that.
