K KevInCinci Junior Audioholic Jan 25, 2008 #5 Out of curiosity, if these things have digital tuners in them, is it possible to use them for OTA HD reception for a projector (i.e. without an internal tuner)? And does the converter output in HD or not? I'm guessing not.

Ever see the new cable boxes that are about the size of a novel? That's what I'm thinking here. Perhaps the coupons will be usable on a more upscale unit. Time will tell.

majorloser Moderator Jan 25, 2008 #7 I figure I should get one just for my portable TV that's used for camping and emergencies. I live in "hurricane alley" so we do rely on battery power portable televisions when the power goes out for a few days. I can't see going out and buy another portable TV just to get digital tuning when I barely use the thing. (Wish they made a battery powered unit)

Click to expand... that will totally screw (figuratively speaking, of course) a ladyfriend of mine in Rochester, NY who uses only her antenna and has a DVD/VCR hooked up via a composite input. I do see. however, that the coupon expires within 90 days of the issue date. I don't know if the converters are on the market yet so I'd be real sure you can find 'em when you apply.

All the video input types you listed *are* purely analog. Only HDMI and DVI are digital. Even the standard 15-pin VGA port on many HDTV's is analog RGB (and even the DVI port carries the analog VGA signals also, hence the little "dongles" some video cards come with to adapt your old VGA monitor to the DVI port.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video Todd in Cheesecurdistan

Sorry I meant OTA antenna connection. If the TV has any type of video inputs then you might be screwed.
