SVS MTS-01 Speakers

I had a chance to listen to them at CES, although I mainly went down to listen to the PB13. I thought they sounded great in both stereo mode and 7.1. I was also impressed with the sound output they provided using just the Denon reciever. At the time I went the subwoofer output while watching movies was lacking. When they were running blu-ray movies, some sort of attenuation was happening to the subwoofer output. But I was amazing at how deep and full sounding the system was. I can only imagine how much better it sounded once the system was fully tuned.

Oh, and for looks I liked the rosenut finish the best. Although the piano black looked great also, I just like the rosenut finish a little better.

I just got an email today... :D:D

I was emailing back and forth with Ron and Ed yesterday, and got some answers to some questions... and then Ed must have looked up my account, He thanked me when he noticed that I have made a few purchases lately, I'm wondering if he may have bumped my name up in line, as Erik told me I would probably not ship out until Friday.

Can't Wait... :)

Ok boys and girls, got something from UPS today... Thought you might like to see them. They are extremely Heavy... The Center Channel and Bookshelf's are huge. And the finish is fantastic.. Very happy so far. 2 day delivery time for me...

And now for the bad news... I almost cried when I saw it...
UPS Strikes/Drops again... :mad::(
SVS is already on it... Shipping me out a replacement.

In a word... AMAZING so far...

I moved them over to my bedroom and quickly set them up... only the front 3 so far. I really only had about 5 mins with them, but from what I heard, just incredibly smooth - I would consider them very accurate, and neutral... Honestly I haven't had enough time to give you a fair assessment, but when I get home I can run through them a bit better.

very nice!! too bad though on the dinged corner. why couldnt it have been the bookshelf instead of the floorstander? no? :)

looking at the floorstander's box, seems they flipped it or horizontally dinged it.

comparisons warp!

Good for you Warp. Very very nice.:D:D Look forward to your opinions and comparisons. Too bad about UPS doing the damage. The speakers I just sold were slightly damaged during shipping so I'm dealing with that issue now.

Very interested to hear your comparison to the Paradigms. I just spent an hour or so comparing the Paradigm Studio 60's with the B&W CM-7's, but there is a (not so) little voice in the back of my head telling me to just order the whole SVS MTS-01 system, or at least get the fronts and be done with it. I think I will be spending more money on gas to drive all over town to listen to 15 different speakers than it would cost for ship the SVS...

UPS sucks, they used to be good about 20yrs ago, now they just suck.
Congrats on the new speakers.

First observations.....
So far I have been running through some different types of music that I am extremely familiar with here, Nora Jones (Come Away With Me, Don't know Why), Ray Charles Duets (Fever - Natalie Cole, Here We Go Again - Nora Jones, You Don't Know Me - Diana Krall) Extremely Smooth, Transparent, just neutral... The imaging is out of this world, which I lend to the tweeters, I have never heard speakers this smooth before... Mid range and mid bass are just clean and clear, non accentuated or punchy in one or the other. I think there is magic in these tweeters, soft dome is smooth, missing nothing here... I can't tell you how many soft dome tweeters I have come across that it felt like someone put cotton in my ears.... The Scan Speak Air Circ's are balanced and true to their source. Turning my head from one side to another I get no differenciation in sound... My room is small here but the sound is just everywhere. The speakers are not placed optimally in my room right now (too close together), but I feel it will make little difference here. They don't seem to be effected by placement thus far. I'm waiting on a new dresser and my equipment will be moving to the basement to be hidden late this week or early next week, waiting on my 25ft HDMI chord.

These speakers are extremely heavy, the Center Channel is a bit to lug around and it is 3/4's the width of my 42" plasma. The towers are awkward, soft smooth sides everywhere make it hard to grab onto anything. Wrapping on the sides on any of the speakers gives one a dead thunk, its seems almost deader then the sub boxes. The bookshelves are bigger then my Paradigm Studio 20's and much heavier. Build quality is amazing, from the solid cabinets, to the magnetic front grills, sweet... The Rosenut is beautiful, really stands out, not glossy or distracting, but just right. I am pairing my new MTS system in my 1700^3 bedroom with a SVS PB-12 Plus. It is clear that everything on SVS's mid level speaker system is very well built. These speakers will not be leaving my house....

I am running them off of a Pioneer Elite 91, which serves as my temp Pre-Amp, and I have yet to figure out what amp I will be going with, Emotiva XPA-5 is due out soon, but obviously there are endless products out there. My Rotel 1095 is working with my Studio .v4 system. I bring this up because I believe that I am under powering them even in 2 channel mode, I measured between 105 - 110 db before they started to compress/break up a bit. That hurt my ears, very very loud, but they still delivered, for a 2 way speaker I think they really held their composure with grace. I can only imagine that the proper amp would really make them sing, loud enough to be completly unbarable, but still hold it together.

Packaging was great, double boxed wrapped in a thin silky plastic mylar, and surrounded by foam padding all around, heavy thick foam on top and bottom, obviously they will not endure a high falling drop like UPS let them have... grrr but the speakers boxed weigh 70lbs. They would have had needed 4-6" of foam to protect against that drop...

So far, I love them... I have yet to put them through the paces of movies. But with transient impactful spikes like in Constantine - 2:00 mark when Manual finds the dagger, and walks into the road and the car gets totaled by hitting Manual - 0 to 110db measured instantaniuosly -Whoa they truly deliver !!!! Not one hesitation... WOW !!

Yeah... Mazer got me to start thinking about these speakers :D, and I was really on the fence about what to get for my bedroom. I really like them. They are quite accurate, a garbage in garbage out scenario if you will... They tend to bring out the faults in poor recordings.

Maybe by next week I can start getting into more of a shootout... with the Studio 100's and the Dana's... I'll see if in the next day or two I can pull out the drivers to shoot some pictures of them and the insides as well.

How weird these are the exact songs we listened to last night before we went to bed, I mean exactly (kind of creepy)

Very nice Warp. Will you be doing a full review? It's one thing to read how great they are on the SVS website, quite another to get a review from an actual owner. Sucks that UPS damaged your new babies...looks like you got lucky though, the center box looks dented too. I'm surprised they didn't put them on a palette and Pitt-Ohio/freight them to you...

Maybe SVS should get rid of UPS?!!! I here way too many horror stories about UPS and the condition packages are delivered in. Maybe they need a new currier!? :(

I agree.... UPS is just in such a big hurry all the time, and bad things happen with them alot... I would have preferred to see them just strap all my 5.0 speakers to a pallet. With all the boxes, that would have been a great way to do it.

With the weight of the Towers in a box, and how slippery they get with the dust on them, they just turn into torpedos...

Oh and congrats CaptainKirk on the new Speaks... hows about you give up some words on your thoughts of them...

AND Welcome to Audioholics...

Yes, I will be doing more of a full review, and now that Im single again, I will have more time.. But I have been steadily getting things re-organized in my room. Its alot of work all this wiring, also gots to hang those Bookshelf speakers on the wall... 27lbs

Yesterday, I got my second Pronto TSU-9600 and the wall brackets.. so I can finally start moving all the equipment down to the basement. Thankfully my plan of having all the exact same equipment as my other system will allow me to not have to program the remote, just sincronize it and use a different channel, and I'm up and running.. That will be sweet...
