Problems with A30 and lan connection

First I would like to say that Toshiba Canada tech support sucks.
I called them twice now about not being able to get the lan connection working on my HD-A30 and all they said was "do you want us to send you the FW upgrade on disc? We can't help you with the lan hook-up" I have it hooked up to my router with a cable and the router shows the connection yet every time I try the up-grade it says ~no server not found~ I have followed the instructions thru the steps but still no luck. Has any one else had troubles with this? Any ideas? TIA

Same thing for me too.

On the other side, my BDP-1400 updated on the first try.

I don't know anyting about this really but a message like 'server not found' would not surprise me. It is entirely possible that they hard-coded the address of the server containing the updated firmware and then changed it later. The correct answer would have been 'yes, send the updated firmware on CD'. :)

are you giving the player a static IP? also, you need to reboot the player after any internet related settings have been changed.

Ummmmm?
Unfortunately I know less about computers than stereo stuff
I am not to sure whats different from a Static IP and a regular IP?
I had to manually set the IP address as the unit would not automatically detect it so I used the #s in the manual? Yes I have re-booted after each attempt.

The problem is most likely your pc's TCP/IP settings, you can't go by what is in the manual, as it may not be the same as your pc. You will have to go to your network settings to see what IP your PC is using for the gateway, and dns servers.

I tried clicking around in the computer to see what those settings are but cant seem to find them? With out doubt if I keep blindly clicking away I wont have my computer working either so I guess I will just wait for the disc.

Yeah, you really have to know just what you are looking for, and where to find it or you will never find it. You can download the update from the Toshiba website, and burn it to a disc if you don't want to wait for them to mail it to you.

What router are you using ?
I don't know if you can change the IP/DNS settings on your DVD player but if not, you'll have to setup your router as DHCP wich will allow your DVD player to have a new dynamic Ip address every time you turn it on. If you have a Static IP the song would be a bit different/harder.

It's a Linksys
Says ~ Wireless-G 2.4ghz Broadband router
Funny thing is that the router has 4 little green lights on the front that light up when a connection is made. The light for the port that the DVD player is plugged into goes out when the player is turned off and comes on when I turn the player on? This makes me think there is a connection even though the DVD player says their isn't? Thanks for all your help so far guys.:)

Don't worry about the light's, that's ok. Only NIC cards will keep the light's on, but if you take the power cord from your CPU off, the light will go off as well.

Okay, Linksys. Now, go on your web browser and type http://192.168.1.1
If you never did this, the login/password should be admin/admin (please, do change this if you haven't).

On your very first page, you'll find out what type of IP you have. If it says 'DHCP' well, you probably will need to upgrade your firmware or contact Linksys. If this field looks like this:

You will need to find a way to input this IP/DNS manually into your DVD player.

Ditto for me too. You have to get those setup menu's perfect for it to work. My error was on the page that shows the IP addy. It's been a few weeks since I went through the process with the A3, but you need to make sure you dot every "I" and cross every "T" for it to work. Be sure to click 'confirm', and leave nothing out.

Once you are connected, you'll be amazed at how slow the upgrade process really is. It took forever to download, and you may need to download the update more than once!! I got an error on my first try and had to go through the entire process for a second time. (I have since returned the A3)

PS.... after failing miserably at making the connection, I disconnected the router and connected straight to the modem. I'm not sure if that was what fixed it or not, but that's when it worked.

As far as I know mine is connected properly, but there haven't been any new updates since I connected it, but it does seem to know that it's connected, since it told me no update was needed since I have the latest firmware. I have mine connected to a hub, that is connected to my router, so I must have something setup right.

Thanks for the info Rico.
I haven't had much opportunity to look at it yet since my tour started yesterday but I did download the newest firmware from Linksys for the router and a program they have called easylink but the outcome was the same in my limited time. I hope to try playing with it some more on Fri.

Well I got to play with it some more today and to no avail. I just don't get it!
I downloaded the new firmware from Linksys and a program they call easylink and still no luck. This silly program tell me to set the device to auto detect and that's it? I tried manually inputting the IP/DNS settings and no go....pretty sure its a setting on my end but it's over my head.
