Why am I compelled to buy more gear?

Well, while in the process of setting up a HT, i've discovered this drive to purchase more things. Why is this? I continue to upgrade speakers (my current ones on the way have been delayed). While I was waiting, I ordered a new surge protector/power conditioner. My current processor/amp combo should do fine driving them. So, while I'm waiting, I thought what else should I get to play with while I wait. I plan on getting an SVS sub, but am waiting on that, till funds come in for that. I'll be getting the Ultra-13. So, in the meantime, anything else I need to consider? How about an equilizer? I need to look at room tratments too, but for some reason I'm compelled to look for something to fill up my rack, just because I think it will look awesome! I know this line of thinking is not rational and may be quite silly to some. Has this obcession gone out of control? Any suggestions or reccomendations on what the next step should be?

I feel your pain. I gave one receiver and a pair of speakers to my brother in order to upgrade, then later gave him another pair and upgraded his speakers after that. I gave a complete stereo system (speakers, sub, receiver, CD player) to my best freind and replaced them with all new stuff. I gave another complete system to my mom and sold a third one to a pawn shop. I have curbed a sub and at least two pairs of speakers. I currently have a sub and 3 pairs of speakers that will all be sitting in my closet when the new speakers arrive on Tuesday, and I am considering new electronics.
All within the last 2-3 years.

Wow! You prob could have waited and got something really awesome with the money you would have saved. I at least got alot of my money back by reselling things.

So, does anyone have any recomendations? Are there any electronics that may improve my listening experience or just look nice on my rack?

a PS3 would look pretty slick sitting on your rack, you would have a killer game system, and one of the best blu ray players out there.

If I could change my ways long enough to save for the next 2-3 years, instead of always spending it when I get it, no telling how awesome a system I could end up with! Its a sickness!

Yeah, I have plans to get one now that it looks like Blu-ray is going to win the format war, but I was actually wanting the 60g version, but don't think I'll be able find it. :(

You are just being silly. How can you save up money to get the Ultra if you keep buying other things.

I bought 3 TVs in less than a year...it is a disease...

You are right, Greg. I want another TV too. Remember, I PM'd you about yours. Thanks again, BTW. Maybe I should not do anything and just wait? I hate waiting. :(

Now that I have my 73" in the living room, I'm tempted to put my old 50" DLP in my bedroom... I just hardly ever use a tv in the bedroom... but a 50" bedroom tv would just be baller. I guess I could sell it for something a little more practical for a bedroom tv, like a 27" or 32" flat panel... I just don't know, this hobby is too addicting. I'm scared that if I do put the 50" in my bedroom, I will just have to get another surround sound sytem for it so it doesn't get lonely.

I think room acoustics is such a huge thing that many of us ignore for too long, including myself.

I think it would be cool to get a consultation with Rives. 1k is the entry-level, but the word is that its a tremendous value. Even the Audioholics reviewers say so I believe.

Then some treatments from Real Traps or GIK.

I'd personally love to do something like that.

If I ever finally find a pre/pro that I want to replace my present one, Im hoping it has at least the Audyssey MultiEQ XT, if not Pro potential. (not to speak of the SEQ!).

and just for icing on the cake, a Velodyne SMS-1.

May our dreams be fullfilled. :p

You are right. Acoustics are very important, but electronics are just fun to play with. I want a new toy!

Panels are fun too. That is why I went ahead and built some. It is a cheap way to get more involved and it makes a world of difference.

How do you do it?

You guys must be either:

1. single
2. rich

I'm neither so I can't play this crazy game no matter the temptation. :(
