I have played around before and had a few inexpensive setups with some old BSR fronts that my grandpa had. I spend the cash to have all the rubber surrounds redone. They sound good, but look like crap (as in I will keep them for the garage, but not the living room.) I have a BIC sub that I will use for now until I get everything else set up.
I got a chance to listen to some Axiom M60s and QS8s at an in-laws house and that got me kind of fired up about getting something.
I like the idea of the internet direct companies and like the lenient return policies, but it can still get expensive quick if you are paying for shipping.
I have it pretty much narrowed down to a 50" or 58" Pioneer or Panny plasma for a display. I like the 92TXH Pioneer Elite receiver (features, plus looks sexy), but haven't really read much about it, seems like everyone loves the Onkyo.
Still trying to decide on speakers whether to start with a bookshelf like the Usher 520s all the way around or just suck it up and get some towers (the Axioms started the whole thing, but there are too many choices). Seems like every time I read another thread someone mentions affordable speakers that sound good. I like listening to music, but it is usually just background, plus will most likely set up a multi-room type deal.
I am one of those people that will probably be happy with whatever I choose, but will research to death to make sure I am an expert on the subject before I make my decision.....
I need to dedicate a day to go do some listening/viewing and then find some options for the sounds I like....
