Hello, I know it's been asked before but I have to bring it up again to get some fresh ideas and thoughts on subs in the $300 and under price range. I was listening to the AVRANT podcast and I'm convinced that I need to upgrade just about everything I have. I'm starting with a Sub now and was looking for something that goes down to the mid to upper 20's hz and has enough horsepower to handle a good action movie. This is for a 12X20 dedicated home theater (no music). I don't want anything flashy, that's over kill on bass and puts to much focus on rattling the house. Just the normal good bang for the buck that will brings out the deep charges in U-571. Looking for companies, model numbers, places to buy and prices (I was hoping to keep the price closer to $200, $300 max). I should note that my overall budget for new 5.1 speakers will be $1000 to $1500 (any thoughts on that?) less the sub I am getting now, so the sub will be paired up with some decent quality sound.
Thanks again.

There is really no perfect under $300 sub for #2.
But I will attempt to get you as close as possible

This is a system that in my opinion takes care of every single one of those statements.

SVS SBS-01 system (I would upgrade the subwoofer to the PB12-NSD).

subs under $300 and speaker suggestions.

I started out looking at the Velodyne VX-10 on Amazon thinking that's all I really need. Something to bring out the guns in we were soldiers with out shaking the windows and vibrating picture frames. Then I read a few posts and moved up to looking at other Velodyne, SVS, BIC and Hsu.
I have had the SVS SBS-01 recommended by another friend of mine and it looks promising for a 5.1 set up. As for other full 5.1's I had been looking at Energy C series, Intimus 532 Harmony, and I wasn't impressed with the Klipsch demo for this price range.
So matched up with these speakers down the road I wanted a solid sub that could reinforce the boom and bangs with out being to overwhelming.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

SVS, HSU, and eD all make excellent subs. Since your total budget can bear it, I'd definitely up you sub budget to get your hands on one of these. I believe eD has a sub right at $299.

Speakers are trickier as there are tons of good ones out there and everyone has different taste. The system mazer suggested is a great system especially for output. Saturday Audio has some good deals on PSB and Monitor Audio speakers worth checking out. av123, Axiom, and Ascend are also good ID brands that offer a lot of bang-for-buck.

For $300 I would probably go with the A2-350. It used to be $300 I see now that it is $325 but should still be a hell of a deal. If you wanted to keep it a little on the lower side I have the BIC H-100 and it can get pretty low and the output is very nice for movies.
