so whats the deal with both of these units in this thread. I am looking for a cheap surge protector and these look like they fit the bill. Anyone tried it out or anything?

Yes, as stated, several of us have tried one of them. I even posted a pic of the 10 outlet model in my cabinet. I like it a lot.

i read the whole thread. I am just wondering whether to buy the 10 outlet (shelf) or the 14 outlet (floor). Did any specs come with it that you can post?

The shelf systems I beleive have a bit more tech stuff in them. The floor models I think are just surge protectors, but the shelf models I think act more like a power conditioneer also.

Mine came today!! I got the 10 plug model- that $60 on Buy.com was fantastic.

Works fine, fits nicely into the entertainment center. My only nag is that the blue power lights are a bit bright. I may have to put some tape over them so they're not so distracting.

I agree on the brightness of the lights. I think I am going to get some black contact paper and cut out holes for the green and red lights and the power button so the blue lights are covered up.

I will cover the middle polished part with the black paper, not the whole front.

As far as the quality of the unit, it seems well built. It is not heavy as I thought it would be, but then again it does have a decent amount of weight to it. I know that it shouldn't make much of a difference in the picture of my TV, but it does seem like the picture is a bit brighter (probably just my imagination).

I think the only thing I would change about the unit is the amount of ALWAYS-ON outlets. I think this unit would be perfect if it had 4 ALWAYS-ON outlets. Oh well, I still really like it and again it is really well made. Cheers for pointing out this deal!!!!

try using a small dab of blue paint over the lights. You will still be able to see them, but they will just glow slightly aqua and not be so disturbing.

Bright lights, eh? Which unit are you referring too, the Newpoint or the Ethereal? I'm very interested in one of them. They seem like a great deal.

The Newpoint has bright lights. I walked into my living room last night and it looked like a landing strip. However, this is a very small minus that is far out-weighed by the many other big pluses in my book.

I don't know much about the ethereal, but the Newpoint seems great. I don't get many power surges here in NYC, but I really couldn't pass once I saw the $60 price tag with free shipping.

I just bought this-> http://www.buy.com/prod/Ethereal-ESP3014-3240J-Power-Protection-14-outlets/q/loc/111/205014380.html yesterday. I wonder how it compares to the one in the first post. I got it bacause I needed something affordable to replace my Monster HTS1000. The Monster only has 8 outlets and I now need a minimum of 12.
I really know nothing about power conditioning, surge protection,:) and all that stuff.
Any comments or advice would be appreciated and thanks.
Hey Smarty Pants, I looked at the pic of the Ethereal from the link you posted. Is that the front or the back of the unit? Can you post some more pics of it? I'd like to see how it looks on a rack. If anyone else has some pics of it, please post it. I'd like to see it. Thanks.

Ok gang,

I just received my unit today and I just hooked it up tonight. All I have to say is that this unit is operating just fine. The lights are BRIGHT man!!! but I took a thin strip of duck tape over them and they tammed. Not sure how they will look during the day though, but at night time when I'm watching tv and the lights are dimmed, you couldn't tell that there is any tape on them. so I'm happy since I do most of my enjoying at night.

The unit came in a HUGE box but it was very light. it's a very clean design and I like it. I got the bigger unit of 12 outlets and so far I'm only using 4 so it's good to know that I have plenty more when I get the amp and dvd player hooked up.

I can't seem to tell a difference in the sound quality of my stereo but it is very reasuring to know that at least my equipment is protected. Stormy rainy season a coming in the Bay Area. Good luck to you all!
