I am building a home theater room that will initially have as its display a 62" DLP rear projector. Eventually I will want to go the overhead front projector route and want to prewire for it before I close the ceiling in.
My question therefore is about mounting distance from the proposed screen. I am a complete rookie where front projectors are concerned. Perhaps they are all adjustable and distance is irrelevant - I dont know. I do know that the projector will probably be a 720P DLP unless 1080P prices fall into my budget by then. My overall room length is 20', but the width is only 12' and I would like to project an image in the 80-90" range.
If anyone could help me choose a mounting position, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry to say, it is not a simple process as there is not one distance fits all conditions and projectors.
But, it is great that you are thinking now and trying to pre-plan this, not remodel later
It might be best to decide on a screen size, room condiotion if that can be light controlled completely as that may dictate the projectors minimum light output, if you want a fixed or motorized screen, operate the screen automatically when the projector is turned on, etc.
An auto screen will need a 2 wire cable from the projector to screen for control, and the screen needs a 120V outlet on the ceiling.
Projector locations varies by make and model with some range in it, and that also depends on screen size to some extent. You need power to the projector. You need at least an HDMI cable of the right size for the distance from the video source. You may need a remote sensor wire and eye at either at the screen or projector to control the setup.
So, it is not for the beginner, really, if you are pushed for time to close up the ceiling. While a couple of conduits, power and signal would help, where to you terminate it?
