I would have to agree with 3 db, the black cd's do seem to deal with rough handling better than all the others I've used. I've gone through more than 2,000 cdr's in the last 3 years, and the black discs I gave away to all my rowdy friends that only listen to music in their cars are still playing, the others are coasters now. As for sound quality, a cd is a cd of course....
I'm also guessing that the author of the article never burnt the same downloaded file twice in all of his "expirements". He probably started out with 128k's and ended with 172 average vbr's, but thats just a guess.
