Snap, crackle, pop, in PS3 games

So I finally got around to opening my 1 PS3 game (motorstorm).
And the audio is just pathetic, completely distorted.
Checked the in-game audio and corrected the settings to ~40% on both settings.

Hooked direct HDMI.

Please note, this is only with games, or rather only with the PS3 game.

Crash Bandicoot, I had my brother bring over, and sound is perfect.
SD DVD sound is perfect/acceptable
BD movie sound is perfect/acceptable
etc....

Is there a known issue with the motorstorm game? do I have a bad copy?
As well, it seems a little sluggish (the system in general).
The 40Gb was about 5% faster than the 80Gb that I now have (specificaLLY ON THE CROSS MENU, IT WAS FASTER)

sorry, my caps button got stuck.

I haven't had any problems with Motorstorm. I have a 60g. Do you have more than one HDMI input on the TV? Did you try swapping them?
