How about Totonos (sp?), Brooklyn? I heard that Totono's founder was working at Lombardi's at the turn of the century and he was the one who made the pizza, Lombardi was the owner. You NY fellows set me straight if I'm wrong.:D

You mean Totonno's (just in case anybody is looking for it)... the original is out on Coney Island, but they have 2 locations in Manhattan itself. I've actually never been, but I don't doubt that its awesome. I would always recommend visiting the original, but Coney Island can be quite a long trip away from Manhattan.

Our last trip was a very short "foodie" trip, 3 days, no kids. We ate at Babo's, Mesa Grill, Lombardi's, Ray's Original, El Posto, all excellent, NYC can't be beat when it comes to good food. We do have pretty good Italian spot near where I live, called Randazzos, best meatballs in Miami:), no pizza.:(
Agreed!
Babo's, and Mesa Grill both great. All of Bobby Flay's places are good.
He has a steak house in the Borgata Casino, in Atlantic City, NJ that is incredible.
You have to stop this.
This talk is making me so hungry,
my stomach is killing me.:D

Yup, they're in Brooklyn and Yonkers too. Around since the turn of the century (1904), founder started at Lombardi's, in 1924 opened in Coney Island. They get good reviews. My next trip to NY will include a stop there.

Mesa Grill was extra-ordinary, Babo's also was out of this world.

Coney Island doesn't serve pizza.

I just had breakfast and now I'm hungry again!!! I LOVE Nathan's. I still remember going for the first time when I was about 6 or 7. There's just something about the water that they use there to boil up the dogs- maybe becuase its the exact same batch of water they've been using since it opened!

Reminds me of that saying:

Pizza is like sex, even when it's bad it's still pretty good!:D

I'm hungry now also.

Best pizza I've ever had...easy...right here. http://www.spicolisbarleybin.com/

Twisted bread crust, buttered with garlic and sprinkled with parmesan. Everthing about this pizza is simply above and beyond expectations.

I know what I want for dinner tonight.

Miami is home to the best Cuban food I've ever eaten. Restaurant called Havana Harry's (it is a silly name...)- have you every been?? It was recommended to us by a friend who came over from Cuba on a raft (read: a dresser drawer).
Just about EVERY hole in the wall place in Miami has great Cuban food. Miami
also has some real good Chinese food. Maybe not as good as NYC or the different China towns in the major cities in California but I would say, best in the Southeast. BUT, in Orlando, where I live, the best pizza I've ever had is from a place called Broadway's pizza. The amount of MEAT they put on their pizza's is amazing. REAL slices of Italian sausage, not the rabbit turds that Pizza Hut and most of the other guys use. Only problem with them is, one day you go in and the food is amazing. Go in a week later, and it's........well, not that great.

The best (most authentic) Cuban food in Miami is La Rosa on NW 7 Street, it's about as close to home cooking as you can get with Cuban food. I've eaten at Havana Harry's, it's ok not bad. The Cuban old timers will tell you go to La Rosa, it's like home before Castro. Cuban cuisine is very rustic and simple you can't go haute cuisine as it becomes a caricature of what it's supposed to be, the simpler the better and the more authentic( I've learned how to cook Cuban from my neighbors that arrived here in 1960.) There's a restaurant on South Beach called YUCA it was the first to try and "bring up to date" Cuban cuisine, it's expensive and the local Cubans wont go near it calling it "sacrilegious" to their cuisine, I tried it, the food looks a bit like Cuban, but it isn't, too many frills. It loses something in the translation. The restaurant survives on uninformed tourists who think they're getting the real deal. There is a Cuban pizza.....pulled pork, pineapple and ham, never tried it.

I think I may have been to La Rosa- but I don't remember. I've been to a couple of places in Miami (all good rustic style food) but I never remember the names!

There is actually an amazing authentic Cuban restaurant in Hoboken, NJ of all places! It's called La Isla. The place has a total of 7 tables and a counter and seats no more than 30 people. It's BYOB, and the sign out front says "CAFETERIA". The menu is as simple as it gets, but the food is so amazingly good that on Friday and Saturday evenings you will have lines that start at 6:00 just to get a table. Zagat actually rates this place a 27 for food. It is the only place I've ever been that comes close to comparing positively to Miami cuban.

Next time you're down here make sure you try La Rosa, by far it's my favorite Cuban restaurant.

How did this get from Pizza to Cuban food? I love these type threads.
Because the two things that I spend the vast majority of my money on are electronics related equipment and cooking equipment!!!!! I will discuss any type of food, anytime, anywhere... and if you're nice to me I'll then make it for you.:)
