Pirates 3 on uncompressed PCM is awesome. It's a whole new experience when comparing it to the regular DD soundtrack. Difference is just huge, just huuuuuuuuge.

Hey, that is great. Let us know the same DVD with the new sub, if you have a house left:D

Yeah that's the only thing that sucks now by going with the higher def sound. Now I REALLY need a new sub. The Sony sub can't take it at all. I am just so surprised because I didn't think the difference in sound would be that big.

what receiver did you have before? I'm wondering if the newere, better receiver had anything to do with the sound being so much better.

I've found that the PCM tracks can be hit and miss. If you want a REALLY immersive experience, I highly recommend Blackhawk Down.

However, I didn't notice much of a difference between PCM and DD on Underworld. It seems that sound quality and picture quality can vary greatly between discs.

Well, the low frequency band is not easy to reproduce with impact unless you do have a capable sub in the first place. :D

Yamaha HTR-5960. I think it is the lower model below the 661.

I thought BHD was great in Superbit with the DTS track, I'll have to check out the bluray version.

I wonder if the difference in sound is just a calibration change? You should not notice one being better than the other at that level.

Glad you are enjoying it!

I had and have the same impression. Get an SVS tube and you will be even more astounded with the True HD and DD+!!:D

Just interjecting here, I thought that at first but now I make the habit of flipping back and forth in the middle of each HD DVD I watch and can absolutely tell the difference. It is too much to be placebo effect (I do actually believe in that:D) IMHO.
My other receiver is a mammoth Marantz and this sounds better than that as well. High resolution HDMI audio must be making some difference.

Very true... I love my SVS tube.
I wanted to say that this week I've been home with a sore back. Needless to say, I watched a lot of movies;) I changed my normal viewing position to be closer to the sub so I could lay down. My sub is right behind this portion of the couch. During 300, the nearfield SVS was "massaging" my back during the elephant and rhino scenes:D Nice therapy!
