Hi guys! I see that 42 of 'us' have looked at my posting below and only one comment (good advice on how to share photographs but nothing on my audio questions).

Like, have I posted my questions in the wrong forum; or ignored some "I'm a total newbie, not fit to lick anybodies boots in these hallowed pages and crave a few crumbs of your wisdom" type protocol? :D [ . . . which is actually true].

Or, as usual, am I just lacking patience? :p

Regards (so far), og.

I don't think anyone is ignoring you. I just think that since that is an older unit that the members here don't have much information on it. I know I don't. Sorry Wish I could help. I did post a link on your other thread.

I can't help with your vintage dilemma, but I see you have a set of Energy 22's. Awesome speakers. Those were my first holy **** experience with small high excursion bass drivers. My friend got a set in the mid 80's and I was amazed at how good they sounded and how much bass was produced by those little drivers pumping their little hearts out.

Cheers,

While that tuner is older than I am, I think it's really neat. McIntosh gear still looks a lot like that.

A repair shop should be able to fix the noise issue. But, don't expect to get a low price because the street value of the unit is low to nothing (for most people). You have to look at it as more of a sentimental "vintage" piece that might require extra work and time to be fixed and/or taken care of.

The knobs: Sure, they can be replaced but it will take time hunting down the right knobs. It’s like searching for the correct color original floor mat for a car built in the 70's, only tougher because a lot more cars were probably made and people kept them around a lot longer. I would put want ads out there on craigs list, audiogon, AVS Forum, and other sites like this as well as scouring e-bay. It will be a triumph once you succeed.

As far as the speakers go, yeah they can be fixed too but I'm no speaker repair guy. maybe someone else out there is?????

I. Thanks, davemcc, I researched the bejeebers out of the speaker question in 1990; and when I got them, they (the Energy's) told me that they would like something special to drive them with. So being an inverted snob ('shame on me'), I ignored the 'seperates' route and ended up with the Luxman R-117. It does ('They do') a superb job on most everything, except for when I want to melt-down with some really loose (probable 'inaccurate' - not necessarily all that loud) jazz, blues or rockkkkkkk.

II. Hey InTheIndustry, thanks for caring! I'm on side with the concept of the 'not-necessarily-cheap-labour-of-love-project' emanating from the low initial purchase - I've been through the same process with my Akai AA 1135.

The speakers too - I had these fitted up with new surrounds and they sound very good (especially for "when I want to melt-down with some really loose (probable 'inaccurate' - not necessarily all that loud) jazz, blues or rockkkkkkk"). My question with the speakers, though, is "What are they"? My research into that is buried here:

Thanks to all, og.
