I maybe upgrading my theater and had my audio/video people to come out and give me a quote. They said I need approx. 20 feet of HDMI cable and quoted me $960.00. This sound like a lot to me. Can anyone give me an idea if this is outrageous? Thanks

That's incredibly outrageous! There's no reason anybody should spend that kind of money on cable! Bunch of snake oil salesmen...

Check out Monoprice (http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240) you can get 25 feet of cable for around $35-40 depending on gauge level and whether or not you want it to be HDMI 1.3 compatible. They have some really great quantity discounts if you're going to need more than 1 cable.

Monoprice is very good. If you want to "step up", Blue Jeans Cables are excellent quality. If I were to redo my entire HT system again, I would buy 100% Blue Jeans Cables.

I second the Blue Jeans rec - I received all cabling for my system yesterday. Top-quality and great price.

I paid less than $25 for 10' HDMI (flexible, due to short run).

No kidding, Warp! I sat in stunned silence when I read that. I'm thinking that something got lost in translation. Did that 20-foot HDMI cable come with a 42" plasma or something? I think in Texas, you can legally shoot somebody for charging that much.

Before we start circling the wagons, let me make sure they weren't just talking about wire. I will give them the benefit of doubt that it may also include install. The original set of wires followed a beam. I then finished off the basement by layering homosote and 3/4 drywall. To top it off I had 12inches of blown insulation installed. Maybe a tough job to re-run cable.

Bluejeans gets my vote too. I just bought 3 HDMI cables from them, the belden ones. They're great!

I wouldnt think the price they quoted you would be just for the cable.

Did they give you an estimate spread sheet detailing what work was proposed?

No I needed my projector adjusted. while making an appointment I inquired about an upgrade in my projector. After suggesting a projector he added "you'll also need about 20 ft of HDMI wire and it'll run you about 980 bucks"

OK. I called back to get some clarification. They told me the cable from "MIT" would run me $375 for 30 ft. How does that sound?

EXPENSIVE!!! and not worth it. MIT is one of those expensive cable companies.

Monoprice and Blue jeans have 24ga HDMI for that lengths. I bet they are way less.

And, this one is less than 1/2 price and has a 22ga wire in it. Dump that MIT.
