HD DVR Recommendations needed

Well, Comcast's friendly and courteous customer service strikes again! Boy, they just love to hire such good people, people who really love their job and love the customer. Yeah, right.

Ok, so I'm looking for a good DVR, one with enough capacity for HD content, and preferrably one that will let me record two different shows simultaneously. I've been leaning towards TiVo, mostly because some of friends who own them love the interface. But I don't know much about them. I just know my Comcast (Motorola) DVR is not all that great.

Please make suggestions and tell me what features and functionality I should look for.

Thanks.

You could always use a computer with a capture card as a DVR. It's what I do, but that may not be the best thing for your situation, but it is one suggestion.

Yeah, I've thought about that briefly, but you're right; I don't think this will fit my specific need. I want something my whole family can easily navigate, and relatively contained. My current layout and my need doesn't really lend itself well to a PC based solution.

Tivo is far superior to the Comcast DVR. I would definetely recommend it if you want to stick with cable. The HD Tivo will accept two CableCards so you can get all of your digital cable channels.

Myself, I'm dumping cable and going with satellite. I hope so, anyway, it depends on whether or not I can get line of sight for the sats.

Both DirecTV and Dish Networks DVRs are much better than Comcast and I have found that I like the Dish DVR just as much as Tivo. Satellite has FAR more HD content than cable does.
