Which is the best remote?

If you were to line up remotes from Crestron, AMX, a Pronto, even a Harmony (don't laugh) which would be the chosen one? I realize that AMX & Crestron aren't quite in the same ballpark as some others, but for argument's sake?

Pronto 9600... best of the best... http://www.pronto.philips.com/index.cfm?id=1303

I did the run around on remotes for a long time... and ended up with this unit...
Hands down the most powerful remote, with some time and dedication, small learning curve here, but can do anything you could possibly think of...
I would put the 9600 in the same league as Crestron, and AMX but you can do it yourself...
Philips is always coming out with updates to expand its functionality.....

Good Luck on your search....

And as the wise and wonderful Mazersteven said http://www.remotecentral.com/

:)

I have the pronto TSU7000, I like it better than anything offered by Universal. I dont like the harmony remotes period. And the only AMX ive dealt with are the large modero touchpanels which technically arent remotes. And I dont like them either. Its like carrying around a textbook with you to turn the tv on.

The Harmony line and Universals have always been my remotes of choice.

...... even a Harmony (don't laugh) .......
Im not laughing. I may be bias towards Harmony only because I own one, but I love my remote! I’ve never had any problems with my remote, it does everything that I ask of it, and it looks like a remote (WAF/GAF).

I've had a Harmony H659 for a couple of years now and love it. At under a hundred bucks it's hard to beat -- simple and effective :)

Am I the only one too cheap to get a universal remote control?

Yes... that and buy some good quality speakers.... hehhehe Just Kidding..

If you can spring for a good quality remote, they are certainly worth it...
I had 6 that I wrapped up into one touch screen, with almost unlimited capabilities, including making your own custom graphics(if you really wanted), as well as function... Learning or preprogrammed code selections...
the Sky is the Limit, but they are kinda pricey... I was lucky to get mine at cost from a buddy in home automation...
YMMV

Oh, you're killing me.

Let's see. I usually use 3 remotes: TV on/off, Blu-ray, & pre-amp on/off. I just don't see any reasons to spend hundreds on a remote???

I have to turn on/off my four amplifiers manually anyway. The pre-amps & TV are right there. Might as well turn them on manually. So now the only remote I use is for the blu-ray.

Well, okay, actually I do have an LCD Realistic Universal Remote that I can program and assign buttons. But I just don't feel the need to spend hundreds on a universal remote.

C'mon guys. Get off your butts & get some exercise here!:D

You need to plug those amps into a IR power strip; there is no...I repeat...no reason to get off the couch. My remote was less than 100 bucks, took 5 minutes to program and allows me to never get up.

Can the universal remote also turn on the treadmill & run 5 miles, wash the dishes, take out the gargage, bring the beers, and walk the dog?:D
