Hi Everyone

I have been looking into these forums for a long time, waiting for some good deals to set up my HT. Waiting on Black Friday so that some prices go down.

My Room dimensions are 16(length) X 10 ( Height) X 12 ( width) . It is acoustically insulated but has two windows with blinds, so a typical bedroom where the light can be controlled but not eliminated.

My Sitting will be 14 feet from the wall the screen would be set up. My screen is 92 inches diag. However I can set the projector at 14- 15.5 feet.

I will be using the projector for std dvd viewing, HDTV through air and cable/dish,Xbox 360, HD DVD.
The projector should be able to perform in some ambient light like watching sports with friends.

My original plan was to buy a 720p now use it for 2-3 years and go for a 1080p, however Since the prices of 1080p projectors have reduced (~$2500) and 720p ones even more(~1000), I am in a fix.

Taking my layout into account can you give me your recomendations on which one of the setups I should go for? what do recomend a 720p or 1080p?

1. 720p proj. + (HD DVD player+Xbox+HDTV+Std DVD)

2. 1080p + (HD DVD player+Xbox+HDTV+Std DVD)

thanks guys

With that viewing distance and screen size, you should go for the 1080p projectors.

I have seen some of the new 1080p projectors this fall (AE2000U, Mitsubishi HC6000, HC4900, Infocus IN82, Sony VW60 etc).

In my mind the Panasonic AE2000U is the best bet for the money. It performes really good, has great placing options AND has the light power if you like you said, has maybe some light in the room. And the best, it's really friendly to your wallet.

It's going to be a killer for sure, and the one to beat for that price. Actually, I would take it over VW60 even if the price was the same, it's that good.

Can I go for Panasonic PT-AX200U or Optoma HD72 or Mits HD1500 and save about $1200, versus the panny AE2000.

Even with the 720p ones, I am not sure if Mits and Optoma will be a good fit in my room considering they need a greater throw distance. The AX200 will fit so will AE2000. But with AX200 V/s Mits/Optoma its more of LCD v/s DLP.

However I agree in 1080p range AE2000 is best value.

What do you guys say?

1080p

At 14 feet and a 92" screen you are in the range where 1080P starts to make a difference. You need to be closer to the screen to get the full benefit of 1080P. If it was me and I could not move any closer or could not use a larger screen I would just go with a 720P projector. Check out this chart for viewing distance:
