Anyone listen to anything like this?

When was the last time you heard a trance song that was based on a pair of Sneakers? At least they make their own music. Rappers talk along with a beat, and make up words so they can continue a rhyme. Trance songs also undergo many tempo changes. Rappers can't handle multiple beats, it's off their fosheezy.

LOL x 1000!!!!!!! I'm listening to some Snoop Dogg while reading this! hahahahhaa

I absolutely cannot stand rap. It completely sucks, and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Even if an otherwise good CD just has a short rap break in one song, it is enough to ruin the whole thing for me. When the car next to me is playing rap, I want to give them the finger (the only reason I don't is that rap fans also tend to like guns!)

Have a look at those: (approx. 800$ a pair)
C-series
And those: (approx. 2500$ a pair)
RC-series (Reference Conoisseur)

Listening to some intense metal music at pretty high SPL is surprisingly not fatiguing to the ear. Both are great speakers but the RCs have a better bass extension as well as improved imaging
Those look pretty good, but the RC's would put a hamper on me looking to buy my first house when I move back home. I would be in the ball park for spending 2500ish on loudspeakers, center channel, and 2 rear bookshelfs + reciever for 2500ish, not just 2500 for the pair of louds. Gotta have priorities in order haha.

Also when looking at a couple of similarly priced products, how does one tell the difference. For example the C-series cost 800ish, and the TK-series from RBH are 800ish, are they basically the same speaker with a different name? Are there any cool extras one has but one doesn't? Theres obviously a difference between a $500 speaker and a $2000 speaker, but when you look at say, 5 products priced almost the same with the same "fantasic sound that wont break the bank" advertising, where do the similarites stop?

They stop where your ears want them to. Basically, we all have different likings and there's a speaker for every ear out there.

For your other question, two 800$ speakers are made out of different materials and are differently engeneered. That makes all the difference. I was about to ditch my 800$ Polks for the 800$ C-500 but I then heard the RC-70 and though that it would be a GREAT upgrade. After that, it's diminishing returns for me. That and the fact that I worked at FutureShop and the manager gives me great deals :D

BTW I'm selling my Polks :p (Ottawa (Canada) region)

I'm in your boat and listen to a broad range of metal such as...

All Shall Perish
The Black Dahlia Murder
Beneath The Massacre
Children of Bodom
Kamelot
Stratovarius
Suffocation
etc.

Pretty much anything black/death/power/tech/melodeath/metalcore... I'm down. I plan on testing this music on some B&W's at the dealer, haha. We'll see how that goes. I really want clarity and distinction between everything and not for it all to just blend together because of the speed of notes amongst all the instruments.

hey BTW, you guys that are listening to "bands like that", what kind of sub have you been using? I'm looking for something that would fit with metal music AND would serve me well for HT purposes as well.

A sub that plays anything good will play everything good.

Would you be considering the DPS series from Velodyne to be good by any means?! So I wouldn't have to upgrade! :p (I own the 10in version) Never heard other subs really so I can't make any difference. Was maybe thinking of the SVS lower line, the PB12-NSD for 600$. It would be matching the RC line from Energy.

Screamo? Agggooooooooood nooo.......

The most "hard rock"ish stuff I listen to is Linkin Park. A few years ago if you told me that I would buy a linkin park album i would have thought you were crazy. I dont like their screaming songs though.

That's Emo.. You should be taking a bath... with slit wrists.

Mouettus,

I would not consider the DPS series that good. Over priced for what you get. I bought mine for 200 off, other wise I would still be using my 8 inch Energy.

I have no clue what "screamo" is, but it definitely doesn't seem like something I would be interested in. As for Linkin Park, any rap is too much rap. (Also, they can't even spell "Lincoln".)

I'll give you an example of Screamo, though this band's older stuff was more true to the word.

Nope. That's more like heavy metal and power metal. Good bands though! :p

There are so many factors to look at when trying to pull together a good home stereo. The easiest way I can put it is to take what you have and set it up per your preferences. Personally I still like to take my headphones and listen to music that way. The Dillinger Escape Plan sounds really good through my headphones. For music like Job for a Cowboy, there is so much going on that you really just need to concentrate on pulling out what you want from the recording. I generallly will pull out the treble because I like to draw out the vocals and the guitar. There is a lot of potential in heavier music that people tend to discredit because they do not give it the time of day they just think it's noise. The beauty of the home systems is the ability to set it up specifically for you.

I don't think Metallica even reaches hard rock...

I think the most appropriate term for Linkin Park, Limp Biscuit, and all those other backwards hat-wearing pseudo-metal goofballs is "mallcore," i.e., music that sounds hard strictly within the bounds of your local food court next to Sam Goody.

I must admit that I haven't listened to much metal since the late 90's, though I will definitely acknowledge there is an abundance of musical acumen and complexity in the speed metal and death metal genres, and it seems that few of the bands I've listened to ever fall into the wanker trap of the "virtuoso metal" guitarists like Joe Satriani and Yngwie whatever. I mainly listen to alt-country and punk these days, so I'm not one to talk about quality of recordings or musical skill; I'm just in the position to make snarky, holier-than-thou comments.
