The WGA strike is on folks, and they're reporting that this one could be a doozie. The last WGA strike went on for 22 weeks (that's an entire season of shows) and cost the industry an estimated $500 million dollars. This one could double that figure. What are they striking about? Internet and DVD percentages (they dropped the DVD demand but are sticking on the Internet). They want more. It's time to catch up on all those shows that you missed the first time around. Maybe you'd like to watch every episode of Seinfeld, the entire original Star Trek run, the Sopranos, or maybe something new...

Oh those poor poor writers... This reminds me of the failed attempt of the voice actors to go against the gaming industry for more money. Take the pay or get out and get replaced. I hope writers everywhere are scrambling to get their material submitted to Hollywood in the hole left by these blithering idiots.

The problem here is the people who write for shows like "Gilmore Girls" want to get the same cuts from profits as people who write for "Sopranos" or "House". Something does not fit well there. It is like rewarding people for writing crap.

Although I can sympathize with people who are underpaid, another part of me says "join the club." Most of the stuff on TV nowadays is regurgitation anyways. Reality shows suck as well. Quite frankly, I personally could care less if the whole things implodes as the idea of paying $100/month for TV and still having to watch commercials is starting to get too bitter to bear. There are many who will say we will miss the writers when TV is flooded with writer-less shows. My response to them is when that happens, I'll pick up a good book. Probably better for us all.

If your're not interested in watching re-runs during the strike, walk through any media store... BB, Fry's, CC, etc... the amount of TV content on DVD is staggering.

My recommendation: the recent release of the Twin Peaks Gold Box edition. It contains all of episodes and the pilots (US and european). The video looks great (for a TV show from the early 90s) and all the extras will keep you busy. As I watch, I am reminded of what a break-though show Twin Peaks was at the time. TV at its best, without a doubt.

I thought the same thing when I heard strike. My local library has enough in the way of TV shows and DVDs that I wouldn't notice for a couple of years that they were on strike.

I don't watch enough TV to really care if the writers are on strike.

Gilmore Girls was quite possibly the most annoying thing I've ever seen on TV. It drove me up the wall that it was even on in my house (my daughter). I couldn't watch it for more than a few minutes without having to get up and leave the room.

Why the hating on "Gilmore Girls" of all shows?

I have mixed feelings on this one. I actually kind of support the writers. The film and TV industries actually do a decent job of paying their performers royalties, etc. The music and adult film industries need to be taken behind the woodshed and spanked for how they treat their performers. The writers understandably want their cut of royalties from Internet sales/downloads, etc. I would rather this get resolved rather than see a situation where the studios kill off (legal) downloads like the songwriters and music industry did to Internet radio.

I own all but the final season of Gilmore Girls (which is said not to be as good.) I am halfway through watching season two, and so far it is among my favorite shows of all time (right up there with Northern Exposure, which is saying a lot.)
