Ive posted a couple threads about the two of these systems in the last couple of days. I have read alot about both of them. The SR800 is rated very well and the price is right. Its downfall for me is its HDMI that doesnt pass audio. The SP908 on the other hand is brand new and I have not been able to find any reviews about it. My question for any who care to enlighten me is this. The 908 has fully capable HDMI connections and the 800 doesn't. Is this really that important, should I be basing my decision on this? Thats not all. The price is a big one also, the MSRP for the 908 is 1000 and the 800 is 500 I believe. Obviously there are places where I can purchase both for less, but there is a huge difference in price no less. The last thing giving me some trouble is the speakers for both. Now I dont know a great deal about Audio Equipment in general but the speakers on the 800 system are bigger, size wise and the power from the 800 is larger as well. Does this necessarily mean better sound. Anyway please take a look at Onkyos site if you please and let me know what you guys think your opinions help. Tell me everything you think! Thanks...!

I personally don't think the price difference justifies the upgrade here.
Therefore, I would buy the Onky800 system.

With these two systems, I don't think you will notice a difference in audio/picture quality. With these 2 systems, I don't think you will be able to hear the difference between TrueHD, DTS-MA, PCM and plain DTS 1.5.

The Onkyo908 is $845 on Amazon.com. Just the Onkyo605 receiver is around $400. I think you will need to spend more than $445 on a 7.1 speaker system to actually hear the difference in sound quality among TrueHD, DTS-MA, PCM, DD, DD+, & DTS surround sound formats.

THe Onkyo800 system is $390 on Amazon.com. The HDMI 1.3 does not justify the $455 (54%) price difference IMO.

Now if you were buying a $2,000 speaker system, then yes, I would buy the Onkyo 605 receiver w/ HDMI 1.3, TrueHD, DTS-HD.

I was debating about this also.

My current setup is this:
Samsung LN-T4069F HDTV
SA 8300HD HD-DVR Cablebox
Toshiba A30 HD-DVD Player
PS3 40gb
Wii
Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speaker System
IMPACT ACOUSTICS™ 3-PLAY™ HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPONENT VIDEO/DIGITAL AUDIO SELECTOR (To connect System Audio to the Z-5500)
Desktop PC Connected via DVI-HDMI Cables
Logitech Harmony 880 Universal remote

I was thinking that the HT-SP908 would be more Future-Proof if I decide to upgrade the speakers.

So torn between the 2 :(
