Ok fellas i need help,i finaly broke down & bought a Samsung 50" DLP for a deal i couldnt pass up on,$850 with warrenty,i know im a cheap a$$ but i dont feel right paying premium prices:D

Anyhow my wife bought a PS3 today for us to use for a blu ray player,i hooked it up via HDMI that i got ripped off on ($80) but the picture is killer, now im thinking about hooking up a Dell pc that we have laying around to the tv,remember im an old dude who only knows how to surf for porn & buy & sell on the computer so explain s l o w l e y.

Is there anything special i should know about or something that i should do other than hooking the pc up to the proper port?I only want a few features with the suggested pc to tv set up which would be watching movies from Veoh.com & to surf Audioholics & such.

From what i read in the manual it seems to be a simple procedure hooking it up & setting up the screen,im concerned with what can go wrong if anything.

Thanks.

Golly, you and your extravagant purchases. First it's the gas guzlers, then an $80 HDMI cable. :D Just kidding around!

I don't own a DLP set, but I sure can't think of anything that would go wrong when hooking up a PC to the PC video input on it. You'll probably need to set up the PC's resolution once you get it hooked up to the TV (I'm assuming that the resolution of the TV is different than that on your PC monitor). You might even need to download an updated video driver for the resolution...doubtful, but I wanted to mention it just in case your video card can't do the resolution of the TV.

Let us know how it looks!

If the video card has a DVI output then you should be able to connect it using a DVI-HDMI adapter or cable. The native resolution of the TV should show up as an option in the display settings on the PC.

I have had no trouble connecting my PC to my Mitsubishi DLP projector using this method. The results are phenomenal.

The gas hogs are here to stay but the $80 HDMI cable is going back as soon as the one i ordered online comes in,i use Best Buy's liberal return poilcy as if i own the joint:D

Ill keep ya posted.

Thanks for the info,i was just a bit worried as i never heard of anybody running DLP as their monitor.

Im not sure what the video card is capable of but the back of the PC does have DVI,i ordered an HDMI cable today as well as a DVI to HDMI cable,im probabally going to go to BB tomorrow & buy a temp cable so i can get up & running till the ordered cables come in.

Both cables will be going straight back for a refund as soon as they arrive:D

i use a dvi to hdmi cable on my lcd screen ... the type of screen shouldn't matter.

i've used the pc input before but i must say that the dvi to hdmi cable gave the best PQ

For whatever it's worth, I use the VGA output of the PC into a Mitsubishi DLP. I could never get the DVI output to look good at all; there were similar complaints at AVS.

The native resolution may not show up in your video card's control panel. I use a program called PowerStrip that allows tweaking of pretty much every video parameter. It took a while, but the PC video signal is very close to the actualy screen size.

Good luck.

The rear projection sets behave differently than the front projectors for some odd reason. I have never attempted to connect a PC to a Mits rear projection set but I have read in the manual of some models that you cannot connect a PC to the HDMI inputs. Some models do allow this. You usually have to use HDMI 1 to make it work correctly.
