You may just get over it one day, I did. I was just sitting there listening to music and the thought hit me: "Wow! This sounds awesome!" No more upgradeitis since then.:) (This applies to sound. I still want to get a 42" TV if they ever make one with a picture as good as my tube.)

Sorry to hear that, Greg.
I had a feeling something was wrong the past few weeks.

I hope you get a great new job very soon!

Life is something. We complain about having to wake up early every morning for work when we have a job, but then it sucks a lot more when we don't have one.

I probably won't buy anything else for at least a year. But I will be thinking about what to buy next everyday.
It is easy to take life for granted; I made a lot of money and lived life like I wanted, going along like nothing would happen to me. In retrospect; I should have seen this coming. I knew which accounts we were going to lose this year and knew that jobs would be lost; I just didn’t think one would be mine. I have a very proven performance history and assumed they would go after the weaker links but I guessed wrong. I went through a “why me” mentality for awhile and then a little depression but I am getting geared back up now and plan on getting back on the market in 3 weeks or so.

Sorry we are talking about this on an AV website but thanks for the kind words from all you guys. It helps more than I can tell you.

Hey, Greg. Like many others here, I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. Sounds like you got a decent severance package, which is always a help. Sometimes I think that I wouldn't mind losing my job, but I'm sure that I'd be lost for a while if it actually happened. Definitely a shake up when it's not your choice! Best wishes for everything and good luck in your search for your next job.

To the OP, I've been there. I don't think it happened quite as fast for me, though, as it took about ten years. :) This year, I've gotten a new sub and new amps, and I'm pretty happy with the improvements. I'm also thinking about new speakers/TV/entertainment furniture, but I'm getting twitchy about how much I've spent already.

Hey Greg,
I just want to echo what the other guys have said. I wish you the best. You may like the "new you" so to speak after you bounce back from this. What changed my perspective on life was my father getting cancer and all he has had to go through. Gave me a new perspective on the medical field for which I appreciate more now, and most of all, it sure put all the things that I felt like were a big deal in life into a new light. Rather than emerging from this depressed if any depression still remains, rather just think of how hopefully a few weeks off from work is what you needed and will just give you a new look on things too that you will appreciate down the road. Sorry to sound like Tony Robins there, all that talk could be rose colored glasses, but I've learned that looking for positives in bad situations is the only way to get through them sometimes. Again, best of luck to you Greg.

Let me sincerely apologize to longodj, the OP for ruining his thread.

We always say how fortunate we are as many people have it a lot worse then we do. We have a nice house, 2 nice cars, all the toys we want, good families and good health. I had a family member die of cancer this year so I know what you are going through. He was a young, single man who lived a bachelors dream as a casino supervisor in Las Vegas. He died just 5 months after he was diagnosed.

When I look back at issues people have; I can certainly say that my problems are small. In all likelihood I will come out of this with a better job, making more money. I am 43 years old so I should have the energy for ‘one more’ good run or maybe I should have a mid-life-crisis, get on the bike, find a 21 year old hottie and never be heard from again.

Yes Adam, I got a decent severance package. Rumor had it that my level would receive a year of full pay and benefits so my lunch buddies and me would always joke about trying to figure out how we could get our packages. When it really hit it was a shock and the year severance was not true. I came out pretty good but some went out with basically nothing and some of them had kids and wives who don’t work.

Once again, sorry for using you guys as a EAP. Now back to the original topic!

My brother, sister, and brother-in-law have changed jobs three times in the last 3 years! Each of them! To different states!

Alright, let's get back to those damn bean bags! :D

Yes, but would she let you move your speakers out 16" from the wall? :)

I would be happy to get laid off from my current job. I am really bored with it, but if I quit, I won't be able to draw unemployment while looking for something better.

Speaking of unemployment; can I draw on that or does recieving my regular pay make me ineligible even though I dont have a job?

I don't know about the US laws

but up here in Canada, it doesn't make you ineligible, it just delays the time you can start drawing UI. You must use your severage money up first. This may apply to you as well but I'm not sure.

don't get rid of the beanbab

You would be better of getting rid of all your AV equipment, and buying new stuff, this way, the thrill would be back, for a while, and then you could do it all over again.

Hey don't laugh, the high end manufacturer's depend on us upgrading at the most every two years:D

Hah, I agree...honestly I couldn't get rid of the beanbag if I tried, my housemates like it too much...and it's been my bed for the last two weeks as school decided to take a dump on me. Maybe I'll just have to get some diffusors on the ceiling or something to liven the room (or at least make me thing it's livening the room)

Greg, good luck on finding a job, hope all goes well. Remember, change is good ;)
