Greetings all,

My name is gliz and I am new here. I have been an audio enthusiast since I was a kid, in fact, I was the only kid in the third grade with a Stereo Review subscription! here is my question though, are power conditioners with it? I just bought a Monster HTS 1600 (paid too much for it though) but can/do the make any difference? what say "ya'll"?

Not at my house. I live in the country and the power apparently doesn't need "conditioning" - whatever that is. I have a simple unit that I use as a plug strip. I don't have experience with power in other people's houses so I'll leave my comments at that.

I have the same experience as fmw. My power console also "conditions" the power, but I don't notice any difference in audio or video performance. I really just bought it for the surge protection and additional outlets.

I dont use one; just a simple surge protection at my house.

Yeah, it all depends on where you live. For me, it makes a HUGE difference because I have so much radio interference where I live. Without my Panamax Line Conditioner, I was hearing the local radio stations on my speakers when the Tuner was not even HOOKED up, even on the subwoofer (when I had the NHT system). But with the Panamax, all is quiet.

This has nothing to do with power conditioners... sorry...

I just got a kick out of you saying that. I didn't start with Stereo Review that early, but I think I was the only guy in my high school who got it. I throw away most of the medical journals I get (they are all online anyhow), used to throw away 99% of the computer mags I used to get too, but a couple of audio magazines I've kept since I started getting them, a couple I pitch still (like stereophile, not renewing again...). In a box in my attic I still have most all my old Stereo Reviews going back to around 1984 or so I think! It's cool to look back at sometimes, and I still like older 70's and 80's gear.

OK back to power conditioners.... hijacked the thread for a second there... thanks.
Brad

I hve only had the unit for about 24 hours. I have since found much better deals on a panamax more outlets and for less money. so I may take this little "monster" back and get the panamax.

My rule of thumb is, never buy anything from Bose & Monster (THX, Cable, etc.).:D

I recently auditioned a $5,400 Monster THX speaker system at a HT store. Not bad. But definitely NOT worth more than $1,500 in my book.:D
