Hey,
So I have a nice home theater set up, full 5.1, acoustical treatment, 1080p, the whole nine yards. In the summer I really did everything I could to make it perfect, I cleaned up the system, moved furniture around, rewired everything, put in the acoustical treatment, and it was great. I literally had fun just tweaking tiny little settings every day in hopes of making it better. I loved it so much, I would honestly watch bad movies if they were recorded in high enough quality just for the system. Then school started back up again, and I got a huge bean bag that we put in the room, and now it seems the theater has lost its luster. Not that I don't still love it, but I don't get the same excitement out of sitting in just the right spot and listening to Mahler in stereo. I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but has anyone else experienced this, and what do you do to keep it interesting?

Thanks,
Dave

So the huge bean bag caused all this?:D

You are sitting in the bean bag listening to music, I am assuming not in the sweet spot?

Or perhaps you're sitting in a different place in the room out ofyour old sweet spot and/or closer to the floor, where the speakers fire above your head. Either or both can drastically alter your perception of the sound.

You may need to reposition/aim the speakers.

but, I'm taking a statistics course now and, yes, it can ruin an otherwise sunny outlook on life.

That's it. The bean bag must go!:)
Pure Music Listening does NOT EQUAL Comfy Big Bean Bag.:)

Like when I critically listen to music, I sit right in the sweet center spot. But when I watch movies or casually listen to music to relax, I lie down on my comfy big sofa. But no bean bags. These beans are absorbing all the sound from your room like a black hole.:)

I think a new subwoofer could cure your blues.

The acoustically deadening bean bag... a huge 8' x 8' bag filled w/ sound absorbing "bass trap beans"...

Seriously though, get rid of that bean bag if that's what's changed the atmosphere of the room, but if it's comfortable and you enjoy sitting in it the most, then just put it in the sweet sport and keep it. A man's got to be comfortable in his HT/Stereo room!

I'd be distracted though if everytime I moved a little to hear that swishing sound of beans...

Hi Dave,
I don't want to put words in your mouth.
Am I hearing you say your getting that "Is that all there is" feeling?
After spending all that money and set up time, the polish is off the apple a bit?
Kind of a "Wanting, was better than having" feeling?

You ask how to keep it interesting?
I ask my wife to dress up in a French maid outfit.:D

I suppose that is what I'm getting (and I'm out of disposable money :p)

I go thru phases like that. I think its normal and will pass. What helped me sometimes is getting a new CD or vinyl LP, or a new DVD to respark my interest. SOmething you don't have in your collection and would realy want. Thats what I do when I get the Home Theater Blues....

I think you get use to great sound in a hurry. Sometimes I feel like my system sounded better when I first got it. I remember the lows hitting so low during movies that it would scare the heck out of me and the surrounds would always having me looking over my shoulder to see who stuck in my house and was going to kill me. Now I just set there and say; yep...it sounds pretty good. I think every once in awhile; you just have to go to the movies or to a friends house and see what poor sound is so when you get home; you remember how good you have it.

I agree... that is why I constantly have upgradeitis... I'm always wanting more, or bigger better stuff, but what I have now would make most people very jealous. I guess we are just never happy.

upgradeitis made a lot more sense to me when I had a job:eek:

I think I forgot to tell you guys; we had a corporate restructure and my position was eliminated 2 weeks ago. I am taking a little time to reflect on my career path before I get back on the market so I am not spending any money on "fun" things right now. I still get my full pay and full benefits for a few more months but I am getting used to not wearing underware so when it's time to go back to the corporate world; it may be a difficult step;)

Thanks man; I havent told a lot of people and I am uncertain why I told everyone on here. I guess I have made some friends here and just wanted to let you guys know. It has been an up and down time and has added some stress "at home" but my goal is to take some time and find the right thing vs. just jumping on the wrong job for income only. I dont want to tap into any savings though so once the actual living money runs out; I will jump on any job:eek:

Sorry to hear that, Greg.
I had a feeling something was wrong the past few weeks.

I hope you get a great new job very soon!

Life is something. We complain about having to wake up early every morning for work when we have a job, but then it sucks a lot more when we don't have one.

I probably won't buy anything else for at least a year. But I will be thinking about what to buy next everyday.
