Another Audio Question for the experts

I'm back and confused again.

I recently hooked up my new Onkyo 875 receiver to my samsung plasma (FP-T6374) TV I took my HD cable box and hooked it via HDMI to one of the Onkyo HDMI's inputs. Previously my HD cable box was hooked up to one of the HDMI inputs on my plasma, and I listened to sound through the TV. Now that the cable box is hooked to the receiver I am only able to listen to sound through the speakers connected to the receiver via 7.1. My TV no longer produces any sound of its own as before.
I need to have the option of listning to sound from the TV only OR my 7.1 set up, because the thought of Everybody Loves Raymond on my 7.1 Tannoy system, with the possibility of that drone voise ripping my beautiful center channel in half is just to much to handle. Basically put, I need sound from the TV only when I want it.

Can someone help me get the dual sound (either / or) that i paid for.

Thanks again your local goof ball Joe B.

You could just run a seperate analog stereo set of cables to the TV from the HD cable box.:) Most HD tvs I have seen have stereo analog inputs accompanying the HDMI input.

You should be able to connect the HDMI straight to the TV and then make a digital audio connection (optical or coax) from the cable box to the receiver.

You do realize that you will be missing the annoying laugh track of a sitcom in surround sound, don't you? ;)

This is likely a less expensive alternative (moot point as you have the cables already), it depends on what you already have set up and if you feel like pulling out your gear to make different connections. It doesn't make much difference SQ wise (they are TV speakers after all:D).

During the "Pre-Wire", every possible future gear addition was taken into consideration. One problem though, There is a hole in the wall behind the plasma where all future needed wire(CAT-5,USB,SPEAKER, ETC..),comes out and we only ran one HDMI cable to that location(50 footer). So, that one HDMI cable is connected to one of the HDMI inputs (of 4) on the back of the plasma. The other end is connected to the one and only HDMI OUTPUT, on the back of my Onkyo-TX-SR875(20 feet away where the rack is going). So your suggestion, though a great one, may need just a little tweak, No? Hey, Thank God only the inner walls of this room are totally up and finished. The outer walls are still pretty "Naked" for the most part.
Thanks again! Joe B.

If one side of the wall is still opened. It's a good time to run a piece of conduit in the wall, for any future wires.
