Finally bought a samsung DVR-160 upconverting dvd recorder..hooked up to my pansonic dlp (PT50DL54) via hdmi output.but i don't get any video...just blank screen.

manual says dlp tv is hdmi compliant. tried all format settings (480,720 and 1080) with no luck..any ideas as to why?
comp connections work fine

today i took my dvr to the shop and asked them to connect it to their tv using my hdmi cables and it worked fine!!

no matter what settings i choose in dvr, no video on tv using hdmi.. only comp out works..anyone else had similar issues?

Is the TV set to HDMI input? How long is your cable?

My guess is that there is a setting on your tv. If it worked fine at the shop, the box is set up correctly. I would hook it up using component and go into the tv setup menu and see if there is a way to turn on your HDMI input.

finally got it to work..got my dvr replaced and it worked!!..not sure what the problem was as the old unit did work at the shop..

Now I also tried to see whether it improves my standard TV picture quality
I don't see any improvement in PQ for all the satellite channels even though it is supposed to be 1080i upconvert. Is this normal? do these dvr converts only the dvd not standard tv inputs? Any ideas?

The hdmi from dvr (which is 1080i upcoverted) and the componenet out from the stb looks pretty much the same...

It doesn't matter if it is converted to 1080i, the image quality of the original will not be "cleaned up", it will still look basically the same just upscaled.
