Refurbs are great, they are cheap and they have been tested to make sure that they are working. They probably get tested better than brand new models coming off the assembly line, so I would hope they could possibly be a safer buy than a new one. I am not sure on the warranty.

I would actually strongly recommend buying straight from HarmanAudio. I recently made a large purchase (for my current speaker build) from them and it came with two items missing. I called them up the next day and had my replacement parts coming within the day. No questions or hassles at all. Harman Audio has great customer service and great prices.

So Which Way To Go?

I Have The Oppertunity To Pick Up The Particular Receiver (hk3485)that I Am Looking For For The Same Price "new" On Ebay, Vs. This Same Unit As A Refurb From Harman Online..

From the Harman store no doubt, why would you want to buy from Ebay at the same price no less?
THATS THE COMPARISON IM ASKING ABOUT...
THE ONE ON EBAY IS "NEW/FACTORY SEALED" UNIT
VS.
THE HARMAN "REFURB"

I know, but from my point of view, established in my first post, it is better in a way to purchase a refurb because it has been tested more thoroughly than the new one.

May be late to the party, but I've purchased a refurbed HK receiver straight from Harman Audio previously and it was in brand new shape and performed very well. In fact, I sold it to one of the mods here (Matt34) and to my knowledge, he's had a very good experience w/it as well.

If it's from a reputable distributor, I would strongly recommend a refurb from a price for performance standpoint as well as some of the reasons Seth pointed out as well earlier.

There is a bit of risk w/it as a refurb, but I've personally had great success w/refurbs and from my viewpoint, the risk is worth the reward... ;) -TD

This is where you can get H/K stuff from H/K at auction prices. Even the buy it now items are listed as or best offer. The thing is that their inventory is not always the same. I've seen 2 channel recievers on here. When they do carry them they are around for months and then they are not available for like 1/2 a year.

Out of 5 auction items from them 1 had to go back and they even cover the shipping. A 1 year factory warranty at those prices is hard to beat. They emailed me a shipping label to return some H/K Soundsticks II. That was much less painless than taking a store bought Infinity sub to a local authorized repair facility and having to wait 2 months after being told 2 weeks.

Obviosly I can't say enough good things about them. I've seen other brands offer refurb stuff with a 3 month warranty and that makes me nervous.

I may be late to this party, but has anyone ever bought HK products (or any other electronics) from meijer?

*Edit: never mind, I don't have enough of a post count to post links. But go to the meijer website and go to electronics>audio>home theater and you'll find a bunch of HK receivers (147/247/347) for the cheapest I've ever seen...am I missing something?

Is it me, or are those pretty cheap prices? And it says 3-year warranty...
