I love Chris Rea, god rest his soul :(
I think you're a bit premature, gov. He's still alive. He's had a number of near death experiences and serious maladies (over the past 15 years), but last I heard, still alive and kicking.

He is great. Underappreciated here in the US, but he is one artist that has certainly improved with age. I am listening to him now live at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Full of rock, blues and soul. I would love to see him live. I generally enjoy live performances less than good recordings, but his Montreux concert is one big exception. He worked with Knopfler on Ship of Dreams and Wishbones.

I was afraid I missed something.
I hadn't heard of his death. What a relief. I've become a fan of his music beyond "Road to Hell" just recently.

I love Snakes and Arrows. I have never been much more than a moderate fan of Rush but this one really works. Thick sonic textures, precise playing and their usual spacy, high-concept lyrics make this album really worth multiple listens. If you run their music through a spectrum analyzer it's just rhythmic white noise, but a fine noise. I would love to see their entire equipment arsenal. I hear that there isn't a gadget you can hook up to guitar, bass and drums that they don't have and use and the effect is great/

While I'm at it, I might as well endorse John Butler's "Grand National" for all it's rhythmic complexities and fine guitar work...and...Los Lonely Boys, "Sacred".

Nomo, awesome icon. :)

I tend to do more listening in my car. In my 6-cd changer I have:

1. The Clash - London Calling
2. Ravel/Debussy - Bolero, La Valse, Rhapsodie Espagnole, Images for Orchestra (Munch/BSO)
3. Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherezade/Stravinsky Song of the Nightingale (Reiner/CSO)
4. Bach - Art of the Fugue (Marriner/ St. Martin)
5. Bach - Brandenburg 1-3
6. Bach - Brandenburg 4-6 (Pearlman/BB)

2,3 and 4 are rips from hybrid SACDs. The last one I listened to on my home system is Scheherezade on SACD.

My close friend is intimately familiar with this work, owns many recordings of it, and says this one is the best. :D *sigh*, yet another recordings to obtain.

Id like to add: I saw it performed by the Juilliard String Quartet, awesome.

The Art of the Fugue is a fairly recent acquisition and my only version. I have 3 versions of the Brandenburg concertos but I like the Boston Baroque one the best.

Based on a recommendation I recently picked up the self titled cd by Terrence Boylan. It was originally released back around 1977 but for me flew under the radar. Guests appearing on the cd include Donald Fagen, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmidt, Al Kooper, Steve Lukather, among others. I missed it back then but I'm glad I found it now. Highly recommended.

I tried, but I just can't get into DMB, don't know why, I guess its the acoustic guitar, for some reason that I can't explain it rubs me the wrong way, strange.

I bought Panorama by the Cars, should have it by Friday, Boylan to be shipped after, for some reason they're taking longer with that one.

Not that it'll do you any good now but I ordered mine, (new), from amazon through one of their resellers - importcds - for less than $9. It arrived from California in less than a week.
