This is a long shot, but I have to try as it's driven me crazy for long enough. Some time ago, I was at Tweeters checking out a Yamaha receiver. The sales person popped in a DVD concert of a drummer who was doing solos. The only thing I remember is the musician kind of looked like George Carlin. I like the music, but never asked what concert it was. Any idea who it might be?

Steve Gadd
I don't know if it's this guy. The concert I saw, he was banging on a single drum that his body was holding up. But if it is him, he can really bang on those drums!

I'm fairly certain this isn't the guy unless he's done a solo standing up using nothing but a drum and his bare hands. Just the same, I might have to pick up one of his CD's as well :D

Assuming you are right, I am impressed. How on earth could you know something like that off the top of your head?
Steve Gadd looks like George Carlin and he's considered to be one of the world's premier drummers, he also has instructional dvds out (if I'm not mistaken) I'm not a drummer fellows, the git is my thing.

I'll have to take a closer look at Steve Gadd. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I don't know), the Tweeters has long gone out of business so I have no way of going back to see what they have as test CD's and any chance of asking the salesperson is out. Oh well, something that will haunt me for the rest of my life.

You won't be disappointed, this guy's the real deal. He's played with just about everyone.:)

Honestly, I don't understand Gadd anymore. He was great with Steely Dan but the last two concerts I have with him and Eric Clapton, I thought he really sucked. But then again, I wasn't too impressed with Clapton either

I have on CD Gadd's Gang, great CD. I know what you mean, he wasn't impressive with Clapton, Clapton looked tired and bored, I think Clapton had just gotten out of rehab or that's the time where his little boy had just been killed, I remember reading that Nathan East gave Clapton a lot of support during that time.
