was looking to upgrade my home theater system have an old jvc 6000 avr it came with a bose acoustimass 600 speaker system for free about 7 years ago. ( I know everyone hates Bose but it sounds OK to me and the room is fairly small) just bought a pioneer 5070 about 8 months ago but I can't hookup all my equipment to this old avr i was looking at the vsx 92 but its pretty pricey at 1300 bucks ....saw a elite 54 for sale on AVS was really interested and its 10 times the receiver I have now but should I just wait and get an elite 92 ? My living room is only 15x20 I'm sure 110 watts per channel is more than enough. I'm just worried that if I buy this 2 or 3 year old model I'll just have to upgrade in the very near future because of HDMI which the 54 lacks but has component outs. it also has pre outs and multi channel in so can I still get HD audio with 1 of the new codecs true hd or the like through these multi-channel ins from a new dvd player ? any help would greatly be appreciated

Don't know what your budget is, but you might want to consider an Onkyo 705.

Ive looked at the onks but the 805 had popping noise issues and all the audio forums talk about them running hot it does have the new codecs for the money its probably the way to go I guess my high end is about 1000 bucks thanks for the reply

Ironman, I have had the 54 for 3 years...It is a tremendous receiver. It's true that it will be outdated if you want to do switching through your receiver, due to no hdmi...depends what priceyou can get it at and what you want to do. Sound is amazing and it has 8 multi channel in, so you can get that sound from any blu ray/ hd dvd player...If I were purchasing now however, I would get a newer amp with hdmi ,the Pio 90 series and Onkyo's look very good...
