Kef PSW2500 vs. Velodyne DPS-12

Hey, I'm pretty new here. Basically, I'm getting a nice new home theater system, and can't decide between these two subs. My living room is 14' by 24', but the way I have the couches set up my viewing area is about 14' x 12'. This room is totally open to the kitchen, which is easily bigger than the living room.

I can't decide is which sub is better, the Kef PSW2500 or the Velodyne DPS-12. My budget won't really allow me to upgrade to any higher end models, and I can get one or the other at a deep discount, though I get the DPS-12 for about $75 less than the Kef. So, I'm looking for opinions. If anyone could please help it would be greatly appreciated.

My new system will probably be Kef iQ7's, iQ6c, iQ8ds, so I'm just looking for the right sub to match.

I am trying to learn about home theater options, but mostly I have just learned how much I need to learn. So I have one more side-question. With the system I am looking at (and I may spring for the iQ9's), would the Onkyo TXSR-605 be powerful enough to handle this setup, or would I need the 805? Thanks.

Subs don't need to match, and take it from me, the DPS-12 won't fill that room very well. I would look into an SVS cylinder. 25Hz tuned version (25-31Pci)?

How much is your budget btw?

The magic number is around $2000. Now, normally this would be impossible, but my work has an accomodation deal with companies like Kef, Velodyne, Boston Acoustics, Onkyo, and Denon. So, I get most of these products at roughly half of MSRP. This is why I'm stuck between the Velodyne or Kef sub. I guess I could consider the HTB2, but price range of the 25-31PCi or PSW3500 is definitely going to push that. I also need to consider whether I need the TXSR805 to power this or if the -605 will be sufficient.

I'd opt for the 805, especially if you go for the 9s. Is the $2000 just for the sub? If it's for the system, then I suggest you be patient and save up for a sub that will perform better in your space. If you must, absolutely get one then I'd go for the Velo. But, I think you'll regret it. Remember, patience is a virtue.

so far I have everything hooked up minus the velodyne (waiting for it to arrive) and man I love it!!!!!.....you'll be very happy with your setup...

but I have one question: How are you going to mount or place the IQ8ds??? because my house is setup the same way yours is...and right now my RTi6's are sitting on top of my cabinets in the kitchen because that is the only place I found that I could fit them....and am thinking about adding a set of di-pole speakers to replace them

How do you like Rti6 ? I hope it is neutral or not too bright !
