What's the difference between front firing and downward firing, performance-wise or other-wise?
performance-wise none.

aesthetics-wise: for me ... it's the difference between buying or not buying.

I like seeing the driver punch in and out :) shows me it's actually doing it's job.

Ahhh, I see. :)

Question: I've got an SVS Plus/2. I love it, but the sucker is too tall. Let's say I turned it on its side, but left the baseplate on. Would that hurt anything? Any reason not to use it this way?

i can't think of any. some people remove the bass plates to get the front firing effect. but with or without it, there won't be any noticeable difference. I believe there was a measurement done with and without the bass plate and there was hardly any difference.

Great, thanks.

It might be cool to see the drivers working, but if I take the plate off the sub might become a $1500 toy for our 4 year old son and his friends. :)

By the way, I'm thinking about maybe selling my big Plus/2 and getting a smaller Ultra13 instead. Any idea what a Rosewood Plus/2 is selling for these days? It's less than a year old.

Dang! One of these in oak would sure look good in my house. Anyone spare a grand for an old man? :(

Nah, they know better than to go near the sub... but if the drivers are visible and moving? Well, that's another story. ;)

I have the new NSD plus 2. I got it last fall. I do like it and have used it standing up and also laying on it's side. I see no performance difference.

However, I am curious over the new 13. Will I get better performance by switching or will I lose some because I am going to one driver as opposed to 2 12's?

I've got the same question, but in my case I'd be going from a Plus/2 to a new 13 Ultra.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest that you e-mail or call SVS. They'll give you the answer to the best of their knowledge, and from what I've experienced (and read from others), they won't try to oversell you something.

I just wanted to send a PM concerning the 13 Ultra, but needed 5 posts to do so. Sorry to not have anything to add..........
