One thing when you assemble this project, and depending on your parents capability, make it simple to use, or it won't be used if it is too difficult. And, as they get older, it may be more of a concern.
Haha that's very true - hence why I want to get an HDMI AVR so everything can be done with less fumbling around.

On another note - I just found this on youtube. I wish I hadn't as it's giving me some very bank-breaking ideas:

It's a great theatre, as long as you're watching sci-fi. Wonder how a western would go over in it?

Seriously, I have no life.

Well, I think. It would be a time jump for the Enterprise, or an alien situation transplant like in one of their episodes.:D

That is totally worth a Chicklet. :D
When I was growing up, I read the heck out of Stereo Review, Audio, Stereophile, etc.

As the technology progressed, I was very, very excited. Unfortunately I didn't have the kind of job that allowed me to purchase these items, much less collect them!

During the past several years, I bought my first Rotel amp (and sold it after about 2 years), and had the opportunity to hear speakers from around the world, meet a few in the industry from companies like Bose (off topic, no flames please), and I met Michael Green, the maker of Roomtunes and acoustic treatments for home audio (anyone remember him?)

When I started buying, I thought I'd get a pair of speakers, a good receiver for home theater, some small surrounds, etc. Turns out, in my closet right now, I have the following:
Bose 501 series 1,
Bose 501 series 5,
Bose 201 series 2
Bose 201 series 3 (2pair)
Optimus center channel
Sony Dream System (5 disc DVD changer w/satellites and subwoofer)
Wharfedale bookshelf speakers
Bose AM-5
Mitsubishi S-VHS
Mitsubishi Hi-Fi VHS
JVC Hi-Fi VHS
JVC DVD Player
Harman Kardon DVD-22 player
Polk RT400 speakers
Polk Monitor 5 speakers
Bose 4001 speakers (yeah, I was on a Bose kick for a while)
B.I.C. Venturi V604 BiPolar speakers
JVC 12" powered Subwoofer
Small Computer subwoofer
Portable DVD Player w/ FM transmitter and car adapter for auto-movies

Maybe some more stuff, but as you can see, the bug has me smitten, and very hard! An addiction? Perhaps, but it is great fun! I've never listed all the stuff like this before, wow. I guess I could sell some of the stuff, but then I wouldn't have them anymore!

Edit: The stuff I have hooked up now is listed in my signature. I bought 5 rows of theater seating from a theater in North Carolina about 6 months ago, and am looking for a projector to complete a true home theater. Where I live now, though, there is not enough room to install the theater seating, so I hope to have an adequate room to place them in at the next house I live in! -Yes, it is an addiction!

You guys make me feel almost normal:)
But I know I am an audioholic. How?
Well, you know you're an audioholic when you have 2 direct deposits on your paycheck: one goes to the usual joint bank account, and one goes to a private bank account just for your audio budget which your wife doesn't know about:D

I have.

What this site needs is for veteran Audioholics to become sponsors for new Audioholics to guide them through their addiction. Not to stop the addiction like AA, but to guide it in a creative direction.

Wouldn't it be cool if your friends or relatives came to you and said, "Here is my credit card, please buy me a $10,000 HT system"?

I am so proud of myself! I have quit buying gear.
Myaddiction is over, all I really NEED immediately is

new surrounds (bipoles, atleast)
tube cd player
2 channel dedicated audio
new upconverting dvd (maybe oppo)
new projector (maybe 1080p)

errr...wait a minute, I think I am in denial:D

You could use a sponsor to help you deal with these denial issues. Embrace the addiction. Make it your friend.

I've just come to the conclusion that I am addicted to buying HT stuff.
Duh. I think they lace the inside of the cartons with nicotine. We can't help but breath that stuff when we open out first purchase. I mean, within 2.5 years I am on my third set of speakers. And I don't mean stereo application. I mean 7 channel surround. And now I want to change out my sub.

:D

But I like it. And it makes it all worth it when friends compare my place to going to an actual theater.
