Starting a DIY sub.

What a waste of a good sub box.
Mmmmmm Nah. That box was junk. To small for any real bass. Plus I needed parts that were for the feet and the only way to get them was complete and utter destruction.

1 port in, 1 port to go.

I guess the guys at the car audio shop misheard me and ordered 1 port. Either way, the port is just right.

The flare is pretty big.. Going to be interesting getting them beside each other without taking up too much space.

Both ports are in. More detailed box design will happen in the following weeks.

I know I can't convince you that this box was junk just by telling you, so I will prove it to you.

You have an 11 3/4inch cube. It has 3/4inch walls, with an amp that sticks out into the enclosure almost 3 inches, then the driver. The leftover volume is somewhere around .3cuft. Useless.

Actually Sheep, assuming the amp is enclosed & indeed sticks in 3" on the entire rear panel, also assuming a .07 ft^3 displacement on the subwoofer (fairly high for a 10"), I get 0.49ft^3. So yes, you are correct that it is indeed useless. :D:p

Take into account bracing. The driver was actually fairly big for what it was. You had about 4-5 inches of depth before you hit the amp.

One of the heftiest 10" woofers I have seen is the JL Audio 10W7 and it has a displacement of .09ft^3. I am sure the sub you have is smaller than that. Anyway, the box sucked. :D

The JL 8W6 could do wonders with .3 cu ft.

The Inifinity I used was pre square days, I dont know about the whole square or oblong woofers except theyre ugly!!

I am going to start a dual Mpyre 65x box next month to replace my X sub, in a .75cu ft enclosure the two woofers will still put out over 90dB at 20hz and should technically never bottom...should be fun.

It wont be loud (105dB before room effects) but it will be very capable of the low stuff and in the size of a large bookshelf.
