I've always meant to post my HT setup here, just never got around to it. Current setup is:

Room size: 15x19x8 = 2280 cubic feet
Receiver: Yamaha HTR-5960
Mains: Polk RT3's
Center: (currently not in use - because it sucks) AR PSC25
Surrounds: AR edge
Sub: Velo VX-10
TV: 36" RCA
DVD: Samsung
DVR: Replay5060

My thoughts:

I really don't like the setup of the speakers on top but where else would they go. 2 little girls rule this room 80% of the day, not sure if the speakers on stands would survive.

I've recently disconnected my center channel and enjoy the sound much more split across my Polk mains. I was surprised to hear more background effects, clearer dialogue and much crisper highs after disconnecting the center - that thing is going on ebay soon with no reserve!

The surrounds could be more enveloping but they still do a reasonable job

The VX-10 is a little small for this size room and port noise is very common when watching movies at reference to -10 db. Since I get to watch a movie that loud about once every 6 months it's not a huge issue.

Future upgrade plans include an LCD TV on the wall with components in the closet, built in shelves for DVD's, a much larger sub (or two), and getting matching 5 channels. I don't think this room lends itself well to 7 channels given the location of the couch along the back wall.

There you have it. Comments are welcome, thanks for looking.

Hello there.:)

I like what you did for the two surrounds via chasing the wall out and hiding the cable so to speck in the wall. Top and fast way around that is cable ducting it where there’s no need to knock holes in the walls just cut screw it down and fit the cables in it.

I see you play keys and guitar as well not that I play I do have a keyboard. The fronts are way too high up in the air way too high!

Best solutions is to use the length of the room place the RCA on the floor then place a horizontal platform above it that extends the width of the room then buy some good descent high quality bookshelf types matching for LCR do a way with the window if you what good sound that is. Next place the sub bass to the side of RCA or use a larger yet more powerful one that can unleash the Wrath of Khan without effort or strain as he attacks the U.S.S. Enterprise!

Use the sidewalls for a cluster array of surrounds and back wall and place the sofa in the middle and it should sound near to a cinema.

Those curved walls near the ceiling look like a good idea for multi surround wall placement and few in the ceiling I’d say you’d be able to convent that room to sound like the famous Empire Leicester square cinema that we have over here in the United Kingdom.

Also an active crossover with multi affordable arrays of matching amplifiers, of course this will not happen over night but its doable and it will surly meet your expectations near completion.:)

For your front speakers, if you can't go with heavy stands (and sand fill them) because the girls might knock the speakers off the stands, I'd suggest maybe some wall mounts. I don't love wall mounts but at least they'd get your fronts to a reasonable height and still make it possible to keep them out of reach of the kids.

Too bad you can't get your center down to a more reasonable height (can you at least aim the front of it down at you a bit?).

Yeah, not sure I would recommend that! Better off spending the same money on better quality 5.1 or 7.1 gear than a 123123 speaker surround system.

I would purchase another Little Tykes kitchen and place it where the keyboard is. Then place the speakers inside the kitchen windows above the sink. Perfect height. :D

If none of the above ideas will work, try these to aim the speakers down toward the listening area.

Good idea on the link/picture, that's what I was thinking of for the center channel.
Stuff the pads buy three of those loudspeaker monitors for the matching fronts and x8 for the surround arrays that would be the answer and get a large JBL 4645C THX sub bass that would give real world sub bass.

And a completely confused mess, in terms of sound. Like I believe Clint said, you really should avoid giving advice in other peoples' threads. More speakers are most definitely not better, not to mention where is he going to put all that stuff in a room his kids play in.

Exercise some common sense and get yourself some learnin.

Those Auralex Mo pads look pretty sweet, I've considered doing something like that but home made, I didn't know commercial versions existed.

My wife even enjoyed mazersteven's dual kitchen comment and she usually roles her eyes at anything to do with audio equipment and speaker placement...nice one.

I've had the center channel tucked into the center bottom shelf of the entertainment center and it still was a sore spot for me in my HT. That AR center was purchased off of ubid in 2001 for 49.00 and I got what I paid for. I only recently tried my system without the center and it basically confirmed what I've thought about the center for some time now. The center channel brings my whole system down and therefore it has been fired.

I will definitely look into bringing or pointing my bookshelves down.

Another note - I've always had the quality over quantity mentality so surround speaker arrays are not in the mix for future upgrades. If I could turn HT orientation 90 degrees then I would definitely be after 7.1, projection over the window, etc. Until then...

I think the subwoofer would have a bit more of a fighting chance if it was located in the rear corner by the workout bike. Nice looking setup and a good room to work with.

I specially like the fact that you did NOT set up individual cinema chairs, but are using sofas instead. It make the home cinema much more "human" and less "cell-like".

Regards.

update

Haven't taken an updated pic in a while, and I've got a few new goodies vs. the old system that doesn't even show up anymore.

The below pic is from the sweet spot viewing and listening position.
