I have a feeling if you set up your system to run the sub (speakers to small) you will just be losing some sound.

It is a Sony STR-DE675 100x5 receiver. So far I haven't had to even turn on the sub for music. After some tweaking with the EQ on the receiver the 550's are putting out some pretty tight bass. So far the highest volume I have heard them at is midway on the receiver and it's pretty loud in our living room. Once I get my blue jeans cable in I will be pulling them out so I can show my wife if there is a difference in sound.

I haven't had the chance to test 5.1 output as my center hasn't arrived and the surrounds arrive on friday. But as soon as they get here I will be testing the home theater aspect with Die Hard DTS. :)

Die Hard in DTS is a great choice. I watched it on Saturday night with the girl (she had never seen the movie ) and that was the first time she really seemed to think I wasn't completely insane for buying all this "geek stuff" in her words.

You'll definitely want your sub for that movie :).

I happened to find it last weekend in the bargain bin at walmart. I have yet to take it out of its wrapper since I am waiting for all the speakers and cable to arrive.

What gauge speaker wire are you currently using? Your speakers are located in proximity to your equipment and IMO you won't hear any difference with the 12g. :)

Right now I am using 18ga GE speaker wire I bought at home depot. It was like 17 bucks for a spool of 100ft. I just ordered 30 ft of the blue jeans belden twelve white for like 10 bucks so it's not really that expensive. Main reason I ordered new wire is because we are moving in december and it just gave me a reason to order new wire as I told my wife that we can keep the new wire because it's high quality. Also ordered a set of these banana plugs someone recommended from avsforum http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BL10&Category_Code=locking

I like those bananas; I think I will oder some too. The ones I use have a single screw going through them and I have always been uncomfortable with them.

Seriously, I have no life.
Not to worry about the break-in even if it is in the manual. The marketeers put that out, not the engineers. Just play it normally.

this topic is has been debated into the ground:p. As I recall, it wasn't only the marketing people, whom made those claims ;):D!!
These break-in threads, got out of hand just like the subs wars do:).
Yes, but in that case, being in the manual and knowing that Mirage engineers did research at NRC in Canada would have, hopefully, tested this. Marketeers don't. Same goes for the bi-wire terminals that I have read from one speaker company engineers that they didn't put that on the speakers for engineering reasons, but the marketing department insisted on them. It may have been Klipsch, not sure anymore.

How do you like the sound from the Omni 550's?

I am looking at these same speakers and also at the Omnisat V2.FS floor standing speakers. I cannot decide between the two to match up with the rest of my Mirage system. Please let us know how you like the sound from these 550's! Thanks.

So Gus now that you've had the Mirages for some time now has their newness worn off and you started to notice anything you don't like about them or are you still satisfied?

Well they are now past their break-in and they sound better. The only thing I would say is that the vocals aren't as forward as I would like but they have a lot of detail in the small things. I think it was a good choice for Mirage to make the center non omnipolar as it works a lot better for dialogue. I would definitely say that these speakers are better suited for home theater than music. I also think that they could use more power than my Yamaha is giving them. Maybe with some more power they will open up more.

Omnisat v2 fs

I have the satellite version of the v2 series and extremely happy with them. Will be getting the center speaker that matches in the future.
